Am thinking my problem is just too many rabbits!-have tried fresh beaver meat and fish but they just walk on by.So now have tried different old time favorites such as rotten fish oil, castor, spearmint oil, catnip, pure skunk juice and still not interested...and yes putting up old CDs flashing in the wind and nothing.I`ve got an old time recipe that I haven't played with in decades but may have to resort to-rotten eggs, cheese, rhodium and asatfoetida…..any other ideas appreciated?,and yes it like -40 cel out there so need something that will cut the cold and still smell!

I have used Caven's Gusto with decent results. Another idea maybe to set some snares around the location.

If the rabbit population is high it a be tough to get lynx to do anything. Sometimes its best to just give them what they want and start snaring rabbits for bait. Put one in a cubby very close to your main trail at their sight height with some loud call lure. Just make it super easy for them to investigate without any extra effort.

When lynx pops and rabbit pops are high it is also easy to snare them blind in areas where they hunt rabbits. No lure or bait needed.

An old lynx lure formula that has worked very well for me is made by rotting lynx livers in a jar all summer. Then take a pint of this rotted liver and add six drops of aniseed, six drops of Valerian, a small bit of powdered catnip and six drops of lynx urine. Throw in about five tablespoons of powdered lynx droppings and one finely chopped beaver castor and mix well.

The only constant in trapping is change so keep learning.

To use this lure put a daub of it on a golf ball sized hay ball (substitute would be sheeps wool) and tie it to a stick with a string that has been saturated in beaver oil and place it at the back of a cubby in an upright position. The pen or cubby can be guarded with snare or trap.

I remembered that exact recipe after i read it, very old school.

Caught many a lynx with a half castor wrapped in a hayball and suspended in a walk thru cubby.

I bet that would catch a lot of stuff Boco. When you build a cubby is it reusable year to year? Do you ever build them in the summer so all you have to do is bait and set come fur season?

I just look for a natural thick small hedgelike evergreen growth on higher ground beside a trail and near where lynx hunt rabbits like a stream crossing with willow. Once cut in these spots are good for many many years.
I use my loppers to cut a walk thru trail and if thick enough a jackpot(beaver for bait) with several intersecting trails cut in for 8 snares.
These type sets here will take cats and fox regularly and on occasion a fisher or marten will get snagged, but I usually have an elevated box or two nearby to nab the mustelids.
The smaller walk thru cubby type are fast to cut in and set with a snare or foothold at each end. These are better than constructed cubbies because they dont get tore up and dont need re building after a catch.
The hayball/castor is a natural attraction for the cat,but I have used flying squirrel, and even beaver tail with fat attached and smeared with fergus cat lure hanging inside.
I leave all my snares closed at the sets in the off season, that is one reason i use waxed snares.I do re-inforce the tie wire every year I open them up.

Snares on bunny trails. Lynx torso especially the guts will bring them in. something that appeals to their curiosity instead of their hunger.

I do good catching bobcats in rabbit trails. Here in Ks old brush piles are common left from cutting firewood. Cats hunt them real regular. Skunks and possums go under snares pretty good but coons get in them a lot. I don't use any scents at those brushpiles. The brush pile is the attractor.
