hi guys, I had treated all my marten trap with F-1 brown, get a nice finish look like green. really enjoy of result, my question is how long time can stay on it, i can make 150 of 120 trap's and about 25 of 330 trap's with only 1 pint.easy to dry and go on field on next day, no boiling no gas , saving time.I dont use on canine trap's i dont really trust without remove suspect odor by good old method of boiling what you think about the F1

I tried the formula 1 white my first few years of trapping up here, I did foot holds and conibears, I will NEVER do footholds with that stuff again, when it chips it retains the water and rusts up under it, it was a PITA to remove. As for the coni's I touch them up with some spray paint and they have held up nicely over the years.

I like the speed dip, used 1st year...have bought 120s with F1 on them and they were gunky.

Spray paint for me. If it's good enough to protect vehicles and construction equipment it's good enough to protect all my traps.

Yvon Arseneault used to dip his new de greased 120's in rustoleum cut 50-50 with naphtha gas.Nice thin durable finish for a marten trap.Wears too fast for traps set on ground.
Some guys that leave their marten traps out all year in their empty boxes spray the traps with pam cooking spray oil at the end of the season. The traps take on a nice slick brown patina after a couple years look like hard brown paint.

I like formula 1 for my snares. For my 120's, 280's and 330's i like to use tremclad (rustolium) cut 50 % with mineral spirits.
