Here in Southwest Georgia the fire ants are horrible. The coon is not going to stick his paw in ant covered bait. Or any other animal going after the bait. Most Paste baits will not pass or oily baits

I was trying to catch a possum in the yard taking the catfood I seen him out there one night and thought that I would watch home get caught he reached in the trap once then started eating out of the bowl so I shotgunned him because I was tired of dealing with it sometimes they just aren't interested for some reason

Several years ago, Tim Caven told me he and his son went to some southeastern state where they knew people and set up a deer feeder location. He said the property owner’s trail cam showed 30+ coon eating the corn below the feeder. Tim said he and his son set 50 DPs with their baits ( Mn Trapline Products) beneath and around the feeder. Next morning they had one coon and the property owner about laughed them off the property. The next night, after moving quite a ways back from the feeder, they picked up quite a few. And by the end of their stay, had a very good catch.

He said all the recommendations about moving away from the food source are spot on. He also said to use the bait coming out of the feeder because that’s what they’re used to eating.

Thanks. Already left that property and made sure all my DP’s were cleaned. Planning on hitting that place again. I will definitely not set near the feeders again, lol.
And thanks for posting that. I feel much better knowing real trappers have run into the same issue.
