Had this coyote sort of try to work my dirthole set Friday night but it had a layer of ice over it. Late Friday afternoon started out as rain then freezing rain and sleet till around 10 pm. Then Saturday warmed up just enough thaw just a little bit then last night the temp dropped into teens.and really locked some in. Wind chill was about 8 degrees when I ck them today I freed this one up and a pipe set in the tree line behind it and a few others on my farm.

illinideer,
That always hacks me off as well...
Had about the same thing happen down here a few days ago. Trap frozen in (in spite of all the usual precautions) and poop around the set - plus he/she robbed my dirt hole bait!! LOL!

I had a slight depression over one of my pans and had enough ice to likely keep the trap from firing. I got there before the coyote though !

Yes wax dirt had a layer of ice over the top of this one.On my pipe sets I tend to pinch the jaws in with dirt and if the set gets really water logged the freezing expands the dirt enough to really lock it in.

Gotta love this winter's weather swings. Been a challenge here also. Got about a foot of snow last few days and the ground under is still soft.in a lot of.places. broke a trail to a couple.of my favorite winter coyote spots yesterday. Waiting to see if the yotes run my tire tracks like normal.

Wish I had more time to trap....

take a short piece of clear tubing and push it in under your trap is that pipe set and suck the water up so it doesn't get to the bottom of the trap and freeze it in place.

Just passin through
