So a buddy has a place close to where I’m already trapping and said seeing how I love turkeys, maybe I could trap it and take a turkey come season.
I had about 8 traps left and figure it wouldn’t be but an extra 30 minutes. If I’m getting up at 0430 then 0400 ain’t that big of a deal.
I decided just to set the main road which goes through a clearcut with 3ft tall pines planted which leads to some hardwoods for about a 100 yards then to a big planted field of oats on the right and pines with a small creek bottom to the left.
Have 2 traps along the clearcut area and the remaining 6 along the field. 2 of those on the long field edge, and 2 in the NE corner and 2 halfway down to the SE corner.
After checking my main trapping location with absolutely nothing, opening the gate to this place I didn’t have high hopes...until I rounded the corner and saw critters jumping!!
My first bobcat/coyote double! The bobcat was in a dirt hole with feathers, and the coyote was in a dirt hole remake from a fox catch yesterday. I dispatched those and drove on to the field where I had a coon waiting on me in a dirt hole set. 8 traps and 3 critters made losing that extra 30 minutes of sleep well worth it.

My buddy text me yesterday evening and told me to follow the road by the field to a T and said that should produce.
So I went late yesterday evening after remakes and riding the other property and put a couple dirt holes in.
This morning another double...a coyote and fox were waiting on me. Also picked up a bonus coon along the field edge.
Got to LOVE trapping virgin property. Almost makes an amateur look like he knows what he’s doing!!

Well, that is a good spot!
Man it's weird seeing a hint of green in that coon catch pic this time of year! Will be couple months before we see that here again for sure.

We are having our coldest temps of the year and Winter right now...will be back in the 60’s by this weekend. Had my yard mowed last week, lol.

Coldest night of the year at 26 I believe. Stayed below freezing for over 6 hours.
Had the fox in the coyote remake, which was a remake from the first fox. Wasn’t much I could do after the coyote destroyed the area, lol. Just put the trap back where it was and set a small piece of log as backing and added some coyote gland lure. He either bypassed the dirt hole I had next to the catch circle and the bobcat remake or came from the other direction and hit this first. It was a back foot catch, but based on what I had to work with on the remake, I’ll take it.
Caught the coon in a trap I places beside the catch circle where I caught the first coon. I had time this morning so I went ahead and moved it again, this time to the opposite side of the original catch circle. Think I need to set a few DP’s along there as well.
Nothing at the T this morning...that was disappointing. I have 3 traps back there now. Really thought that would be the spot that produced.
Guess the critters had other plans. I’ll take the two I caught and smile though!! [Linked Image]
