A cat in a hat can be easy to catch. What works in high population density areas may leave you scratching your head in low density areas. If an area averages 5 cats per 50 square miles those cats will not be evenly distributed. You'll need to know bobcats well enough to know where to look.

Also, one might consider turning some young females and especially mothers who have obviously nursed go. I do anyway.

I agree on turning females and even kittens go, problem always is how much paw damage can they survive? I have always caught double figure cats and some years break 20 In 40 plus years of catching cats never saw one with a peg like I have coyotes or coons. I just wonder what they can handle in paw damage. They do make their living with there feet especially the fronts.

I've caught multiple cats that have been caught b4. A couple that season (jaw impressions an scab on foot). Also have caught 2 tripod cats over the years. One of which was my biggest yet. 33lb tom. I assure you they can make it on 3 legs. I should add both of them had a stub of a leg with a pad or callus on bottom

Might depend on air temperature when caught.

Wi DNR has been doing quite a study collaring cats. I don't think they're noticing a problem w/ damage
