Does the old wolfers tire set work to keep deer out of coyote sets. Saw it on Mark Junes volume 2 video wondered if it works for deer. Trapping a deer hunters farm and use no urine and no matter where I set and no matter what bait and lure I use they snap them off every day. He's got a lot of coyotes traveling thru but in 2 seasons I've yet to catch any cuz I can't keep sets operating due to deer. Any info is appreciated. BThanks.

Try a step down dirt hole. Make the step down a good 3". No guarantee but that's what I'd try.

Don't use urine where there is a lot of deer. Other than that nothing you can really do. the tire set might work but it will also keep 98% of your coyotes out of the set also.

As Yes Sir said, a deer usually won't step in a step down set. When I set my trap the traditional 8-10 inches back from the attraction, I was constantly having to reset because of deer. Now, depending on the set, I usually set my traps as close as I can get it and that cut down on probably 90% of deer problems, and I catch just as many or more coyotes.

I just finished trapping a similar area. Coyote and Bobcat urine were ok to use, Fox urine is a deer magnet.
You said you aren’t using urine though so that won’t help you.
I had to set off the main trails and used backing such as logs (nothing huge) and used fallen branches “near the sets.” Near doesn’t mean right on the sets, just off a little to detour the deer. I hate deer...especially at that place, lol.
Good luck.

Good luck.

I had to use blind sets. Deer didnt miss much with them.
I had same trouble with fox urine. I went to bobcat urine stopped most of it.

Try a straw set. That was a recommendation I received from Trapper Art at a demo. Deer love hay, but not straw.

Maybe true, I don't know, as I haven't tried it for yotes. I did, however, attend a demo a few years ago at WTA's District 5 rondy, in which Bruce did a demo on winter k9 trapping. 1 of the things he suggested was the tire set. Like I said, I haven't tried it for yotes. However I can ssy that WTA demos are normally very reputable.

Try using a flat set w a stake holes bait in it, then cover the works w a cow pie. Put a dab of lure on the cow pie, the coyote will flip the cow pie off and get caught in the trap. I haven’t used this set yet but plan on making some this weekend.
