So I have about 60 months until I retire. I live in Northern Idaho and do not want to move after I retire. I actually enjoy the snow. BUT I wouldn't mind heading somewhere for 8 to 10 weeks, possibly south and get out the the deep snow for a few weeks. But I'd want to go somewhere were I could run a decent line. Not concerned about quality of the fur and making money, just going somewhere and experiencing a different type of terrain and different type of trapping. I've been lucky enough to trap in a few different states and would like to try some other areas. Any suggestions? UT, NV, NM, MO, AR??

Wish I was in your predicament lol you wanting to water or land trap? Or both? MS, AR, and TN are good bets for a mixture with high beaver/ otter numbers. Plenty of them commercial cats running around too.

Mississippi is the place to go.

I got myself a seniors' GPS.
Not only does it tell me how to get to my destination,
it tells me why I wanted to go there.

Yep i was talking Arkansas. I already lived in a state that only allowed cage trapping (Washington), no thanks! smile

Does Mississippi have some decent public land to trap on?

Thanks!

I trap mostly public land here. There are plenty of public land opportunities. Between Corps of Engineers lakes with thousands of surrounding acres and state land WMA's the possibilities are endless. Surprisingly many big names in the industry come to MS to trap. I guess we have the numbers of cheap fur with pretty laxed restrictions making it worthwhile.

In LA there was a place called Marsh Island where they had a bunkhouse type setup where you trap on shares bring your own boat and equipment the place had everything bunks, kitchen and washer dryer. It was a nice setup then not sure it’s still up and running. Rats, otters and nutria were abundant then a brackish marsh with good fishing.

Was born in a Big City Will die in the Country OK with that!

Trapped LA one winter and did well. Caught nutria, beaver, otter, cats, grey fox ,coyotes, coon and possum . Had a great meat market for the coon/possum. No rats where i was trapping and really did not see many people trapping.
