To many trappers think lure Is the magic bullet Robert's not using any. Just bait and top notch urine.
He said pictures will be shared. And some of the quest traps will be auctioned off at the FHA convention.

He and several other trappers with numbers are going to rent space and have their own sale. He figures they should be able to come up with 1500 or so coyotes. He has some interested fur buyers lined up.

Robert did this all with one of the worst years weather wise a trapper can deal with.

I am guessing a paid job 8 hours a day is not trapping?

I see the Kansas guy at the fur buyer. That guy ias a trapping machine also.Coyotes piled 2 feet over the pickup bed when he shoes up.
I ASKED him if he was getting tired. He just looked at me with a big smile and said "I`m just getting warmed up"

When I talked to him he wasn't saving glands. He didn't have time to mess with It.

When you start at 3:30 In the morning and go till dark It makes for a long day.

The other Robert Isn't trapping In Kansas anymore he has paying coyote job some where else.

Incredible! How many does the other Robert have? I can’t even fathom a 100 coyotes where I’m from let alone 800+

Ebsurveyor since you where out with him can I ask how he keeps the muskrats?I would think he would have to add something to them to keep them from freezing and I personally can't think of how I would carry them because 4 or 5 rats would fill up a gallon container.I`m surprised he doesn`t grind them and just put a spoonful down the hole to make it more convenient. Now don`t everybody jump on me because I know what he`s doing is working,I`m just wondering how he carrys them and such. Most of us carry a pint container that we can make a lot of dirt holes out of.

The glands out of the ones he has caught so far would be worth over 1000 dollars. About every 10 coyotes will make 16 oz. Of glands not taking the foot pads if you take the foot pad then it will make more. At 12.50 a 16 oz there is some money laying some where.

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

He traps a muskrat up in 6-8 pieces, throws it downthe hole shot of urine and moves on. Yes beavis right about saving glands, people should not doubt thing ls if they have not done yourself.

When I was there Robert was saving coon & coyote glands. His 'rats are frozen and kept in a freezer. He thaws out a five gal bucket as needed and cuts them into 4 or 6 pieces and fills quart plastic jars each night. Note the bait cutting that was done each night, see photo. He also has pint jars of a bobcat based bait that he makes. At each stop he makes at least one set with each bait. Sometimes he will joke about lure and drip out some 'rat blood on the dirt at the back of the hole. He also said something like "a coyote in a trap is the best lure you can get". He did carry a 1 oz. bottle of Hawbaker's gland lure, said it was good for 'cats. I never saw him use it and it was red fox gland lure. BTW, Robert gave me permission to share stuff with you all, but I'm keeping some secrets to myself.

Some added information is needed. I observed Robert to be well prepared for the trap line. The 5 gal buckets of frozen 'rats were purchased after Christmas and thawed & chopped as needed. Sometime before Christmas he ran out of pre-chopped' rats and had to resupply. Robert asked me to pass this on, he would sell the "howl" if he could figure out how. That (I think) is in reference to someone thinkin he does not sell the glands.

Update

7 coyotes today.

He Is know cold rolling on new ground.

I caught a coyote today In a CR. As I pulled up I could see a double stake rig with no stakes. I couldn't figure out why that coyote was still there. Well to find out that was another CR that was on him not mine. Don't know how long he had been dragging It around but that coyotes didn't weigh but about 15lbs and was mangy to boot.

Not many cats or coon so I'm told. But this new ground he said should produce some cats.
