Has anyone ever drowned beavers caught in a snare. I know it's kind of a wacky thought. I was thinking in certain situations that you may want to do this, instead of use a foot trap on a drowner or a 330. If you have done this what kind of set up did you use. I use the rebar with Hagz locks on my foottraps but was thinking a wire may work better with a snare. Thanks.

Same setup as footholds. Trick is to keep the snare as short as possible as with even my 40" snares you'll need 3ft of water minimum to drown the beaver...more if you hip/tail catch one.

been doing it since '03
use a 3 ft snare down a drowning rod
set on a steep slide so they are already rolling
make sure to use lil twigs to hold the snare 90* to the slope

Been doing that for a long time.

As already mentioned, keep the snare perpendicular to the walking surface or how you expect the beaver to enter. That is very important. I made beaver snares especially for drowners, just long enough to give me a loop that hooks on to the drowner lock

The best way to drown a beaver on a snare is the same way as killing an animal in a snare on land.--Kill sticks-- or in a drowning application tangle stakes.
Waste of time fooling around with slide wires with snares-not needed.

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

Thanks to all that shared on this thread. I had a job to remove some beaver in the past and thought I would use snares for the job.
My snaring skills sucked so bad I had to go to body grips and foot holds. LOL I darn sure cost myself some money with those poor skills but did clean up the problems with traditional methods.

I have a lot to learn.
I would like to get better at snares. I am getting older and those snares are lighter and cheaper.

Mac

Beaver do not drown the snare just holds them there until they run out of air.

Mac, take Newt’s snare school. He’ll teach you life skills that will keep you going well into old(er) age.

Doesn't your state association put on demo's? WTA has the best demos available. It's absolutely incredible. Top experts, and a wide variety of topics. I think good demos really boost membership & event attendance. The free hands on/close up visual/advice from some of the best trappers in the country is priceless. Try to make it to the FTA some time, if you can.

Thanks for the replies. I can snare them pretty well, but I was thinking about drowning in certain situations to preserve the bank and not ruin a good spot. Thanks.
