So they are all mutts and should have no protection! I also agree with Bill, we are our own worst enemy! Need to tone it down, but may be too late! Have you ever asked yourself why trappers are so aurgumentive?

If you watch the crossbreed documentary posted by Bruce T on the subject,

you'll see that the scientific community have been using the term for years.

Now the antis have picked upon it and are using it to justify imposing bans

on hunting & trapping where these "new species" range overlap with wolves.

I think the Province of Ontario has already dodged a proposed ban on hunting

& trapping of hybrids near the Algonquin Provincial Park

Here in New York State, the researchers at Syracuse University

School of Environmental Science & Forestry have been using such

language for years also so It's well used, but dangerous terminology.

If you ever need to beat back a wolf re-introduction proposal in your home state,

words and language matter.

A species is defined by the dominate gene, period.. The further north they live the bigger they have to be to survive, Bergman had it right.. The correct name is Eastern Coyote, period.. Don't jump in to the coywolf BS or like Jonsie stated , the ARPs will want to protect a New species that isn't.. I trapped one her in 91 that weighed an honest 70 pounds, it was a rather large Eastern Coyote. I didn't even think it was special. Just figured it was a big Eastern Coyote, skinned and sold it as a coyote. Sure wish I would have had it tanned tho. The evolution continues!

Common sense catches alot of fur..

Looks exactly like the critter I caught in Northern MN during a open and legal wolf season. Trapped and registered as a wolf. No one told me it was just a coyote??
