not sure if this has been addressed...I assume the huge lockdowns in china will effect the abilities of chinese fur buyers to get to the big auctions....any input?? more bad news for prices? hold martin/sable for next year????

In most cases they will just hire brokers to represent them. But there could be a problem with no active bidding going on.

I’m guessing Beav is right. Some Chinese buyers are already scooping up available fur because they’re out 6-9 months at a time anyway. They may face a problem getting it all home. Thousands of pelts probably go by container ships rather than cargo aircraft. Commercial quantities can get there but unloading may be a logistical problem with so many non-essential workers staying home.

If you’ve shipped (like I have with half my collection) it’s going to be a waiting game.

Now that non-essential workers are going back to the tanneries and manufacturing facilities, we can expect a slowdown. The Chinese may reward themselves for having weathered the quarantines by buying fur garments. I suspect buying for such items will slow down for a while. The Russians, however, buy a lot of garments manufactured in China and I expect that market will keep buying.

Like with NAFA we’ll experience a slowdown. But the markets will still be there because the Russians like fur and they’re still in the market to buy it.
