Hi I’m thinking about buying a dozen of the old victor #1.5 single longsprings, Will they have enough power to hold fox and coon?

Caught my very first red fox in a fairly new 1.5 Victor longspring. This was in about 1962. I don’t know what new means in terms of 1.5 longsprings anymore.

As far as coon go, as I recall, they were fine for drowning sets but there was too much room between the closed jaws and the frame and it invited chewing.

You might face even more chewing with coon because (I think) Missouri coon are a bit smaller than the Wisconsin animals I was getting.

I had the worst luck when I tried 1 1/2 longs for coon. Now with another spring (#2) its a whole different ballgame and a very good trap.

They work good for rats for drown sets ,make sure there is no weeds to tangle .Also a nice mink trap.

Check spring strength. Those traps have been around a long time and a lot of them need new springs.I would want traps with strong springs.

A # 2 DLS (a 1.5 with an extra spring and the square jaws) on a slide wire will hold any water furbearer animal you have. Have caught many front foot beaver in rat, mink, coon pocket sets with them as long as the water end anchor (stake, bag of rocks, disposable etc.) is secure. On dry land, there are better traps for coon/fox (like Teach says) but in a water /slide situation a single spring 1.5 will work for coon, rats, and mink...... my take.... the mike
