Fellow trappers.
Accidentally came across some trapping videos from Japan on YouTube. I don‘t speak Japanese, yet videos are pretty self-explaining.
They seem to commonly use kind of foot Snares for trapping hogs and even deer.
Maybe someone who has been stationed there came across this?
Wondering how efficient these footsnares might be...?!

Interesting how they keep them alive until they decide to bleed them out, and butcher them. Must be a Japanese ritual.

Just a weekend trapper...

There is a similar American made spring powered foot snare product. Don't remember the brand name. I think some snare men here have perfected the use of foot snares, it comes up here and is discussed every once in a while.

Keeping trapped or caught hogs alive until time for butcher is a common practice. Hog men do it all the time.

Regular CRs/snares can be set to snag the foot of a hog, but cattle, calves, deer etc. are always possible. Leg damage is possible and likely with deer. Live release of a foot snared deer is not easy. Beware of the slashing hooves.

Hold-A-Hawg, A very large foot hold like trap, about #5 size, with a rim on the jaw, flings a powered snare up the leg, or over the head. I have several.

Interesting!
Do you use them often?
What I‘d be most interested in is your personal experience on their ratio of catches vs misses?!

I snared and trapped hogs in Japan for the government when I was stationed there. Well, they gave me a stipend to train Mr. Miyagi-Son.
