Does anyone have a explanation/pics or videos on how to night latch a sleepy creek DLS? I’ve got a half dozen with big pans and can’t for the life of me figure out how to night latch them? Thanks in advance

notch the dog. Or buy stainless PIT dogs that are already notched.

I have done both, I like the rod dogs Ed Metvetz sells.

I hope someone buys Sleepy Creek & keeps the company going. Good traps.

I like night latches too Jake.

I also like the PIT,stainless rod dogs.I put them on all my coyote/cat traps that don't already have them.Night latching is simply a step filed on the end of the dog or pan notch.I prefer the dog.The step will only be about 1/32" or slightly more,of the end of the dog.I can't post pictures right now but II bet you could find a Youtube video.

Maybe not necessary, bottom of pan can be notched with a chisel. Dog would then be filed to engage pan notch. It's been several years since I did that.

My favorite is to replace them with PIT pans and dogs. However, SC made a great trap and has a good pan/dog system. I like "night latches" for a few reason. One being their name sake, I work full time and set a lot of traps in the dark. Also under water. Another being I tune it specific to pan position and the notch then locks it at that position; consistency. I even like it on mink traps so at least I know it is an extremely light setting.

If not leaving exposed buy the stainless PIT dogs and call it could. Not much money, rarely if ever with they get bent out shape, and they perform flawless. If using as exposed traps they do not stay dyed or painted that well so you got to make the call. I always scrape the wax off the PIT dogs as they are slippery enough and stainless.

I use and love those SC doubles in 3, 4, and 4 1/2. All offset. The latter only on beaver and wolf (when we have a season). Great utility traps from mink to beaver they can do it all.

Agree!
