I have always used #9 wire for getting beaver to the bottom but want to switch to 1/8" cable. Can someone post some pictures of their cable slide wires? I'm getting ready to make a few and couldn't find any pics in the archives. Thanks! Tony

Do It the same as you do your wire. Just make a slip noose on both ends so you can secure your cable to your staking devises.

I just got done making up a few (slip noose both ends) and will be putting them to work tomorrow. I didn't have any slide locks so I used crunch proof swivels. I just have to attach them to the swivel on the trap chain with a J hook.

I put a camloc on the top of mine with a cable length with a loop on it for a stake loop, and run the drowner cable through that so I can tighten it . It's easier to use in your multiple water depths one might encounter during ice out trapping.

I put a disposable stake, pipe type, on both ends. One can punch it in on both the water end and the bank end. It takes a long handled driver for the water end. I always have a long driver with me in the water. It acts as a walking stick also. Not much depth in the mud is needed for the disposable most times. If a hard bottom a long re-bar stake driven in at an angle will work. The re-bar will work in hard clay and also rocky bottoms. You can also tie a heavy weight to the water end if the water is to deep to be wading in. Ted

If your worried about weight Id stay away from chain. I can't imagine hauling around 20 chain drowning rigs along with re bar stakes.

I agree with adc, 1/8 7x7 is the way to go. I am out of town right now or I'd share a pic, I use the box swivels, or crush proofs, which ever I have on hand at the time. I run it through the side were they over lap and on the other end put a locking link which attaches to the trap chain. I try to run no more then 6 inches of chain. Both ends of the cable I just put in loops big enough to slip another cable or extension cable through. Actually I said 7x19 way more flexible than 7x7.

https://trapperman.com/forum/ubbthr...owners-building-adjustable-drowners-picsPictures are shot, but this is the best design I’ve found. 7x19 1/8” is best. Keeping it TAUT is very, very important. Better to build em longer than shorter, because you’ll have more options. I forget how possum skinner setup his trap connection. I prefer 4-5” of cable with about a 4” piece of 1/8” flat stock. Makes swapping traps a tool-free walk in the park Good luck
