I’ve been using the old Victor #2 DLS for coons with no problems but do they have the power to hold coyotes well? Any advice is appreciated.

The real answer is NO, although people will line up to tell you how good they are. #2 coils are fine. A 2 dls is a 1 1/2 with an extra spring. You can bend the baseplates with your hands. Can you catch an occasional coyote in one- I suppose. You could probable hold a grizzly in one every once in a while, if he's docile. Real coyote trapping traps start bigger and much beefier. Go catch a few hundred coyotes and you won't be using a 2 dls by the time you are done.

Longsprings have tremendous holding power.I prefer more jawspread on a coyote trap but I would say if the springs are good and you get his foot centered, they should hold.If they have original, twin loop, that would worry me.That stuff weakens over years of use.New chain and swivels would be good.Again, for a dedicated coyote trap, more jawspread would be my choice.

I will be first in line to tell you they work fine, and I have caught at least a couple hundred in them no problemo. I've been using them since late 80s for coyotes. I add booster springs to make them close faster, short chains with double stake swivels and a mid chain swivel, and I center mount my chains with a quick link. I also replace the twin loop stock chains with twist link welded chain.
File the pan and dog to a short crisp throw, and bed them tight.
You are more than welcome to PM me with any questions on using them for coyotes, I run a lot of them, it's hands down my favorite land set trap here.

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

Not my trap of choice. But used to catch them in them all the time when I was younger. I never steaked them always had them on a drag.
