Has anyone had success on red fox with bacon grease/cracklings? I have a nice size jar of it that is a little dark to use for cooking, I know coon like bacon grease, was hoping to get a few fox before the season ends.

Tried bacon grease once and the ants had a mound over the hole after the first night. I’ve always thought it would be great if we could ever get a longer than a 2 day cold snap. Try it and let us know. Couldn’t hurt.

Cold isn't an issue up here. I'll give it a try and report back.

Have caught a few fox with it. Have also used bacon grease with some castor and/or oil sack for fox and lynx.

About a week ago, I put a 50:50 mix of bacon grease and dry cat food in a tin can, then set it in front of a game camera to see who might be lurking about. No coyotes.....yet...... but within 48 hours managed to attract one nice red fox, two possums, a coon and a skunk. Seems everybody likes greasy cat food.

Put bacon slop and cat food in a dirt hole the other evening. We got a good 8" or so of snow after that. Cleared area a bit, but no activity as of yesterday.

I found any bait takes 2 nights to be eaten.

Saw tracks go past the dirt hole but looking through binoculars so couldn't tell what made them.

I had a lot of success with old, uncooked bacon in a dirt hole last year. Got more on bacon than with commercial baits. not saying it's superior, but that was the case in the 2 short weeks I trapped for canines. i was definitely on location so it's hard to draw any conclusions

Amen. But I love eggs with my bacon. Wife cooks it in the oven on a rack, I'm using the really ovrr-cooked drippings.

Moved the camera and refreshed the bait.......1 part bacon grease.......4 parts dry cat food.......in a tin can buried under that root. Camera set to shoot one photo and 25 seconds of video.

Within 48 hours......these had shown up. Video of the fox had him look up right at the camera......about 3 seconds worth, and he then ran off. Somehow he knew it was there and it spooked him.

Video that went with the coon and skunk below was entertaining. Coon came around the tree and they were face to face before the other realized they were there. Skunk started to say something about being there first or some such thing..... then coon spun around and put his butt into the skunks face and backed him about 2 or 3 out that way.....skunk was pretty offended but made no effort to spray...... I guess the coon had had a face full of that before and wasn't taking any chances.

Then there was this guy....one of my barn cats. Not unexpected as all of this taking place about 50 yards from my back door.

[Linked Image]

I buried the can under that root thinking it would serve as backing........thinking I'd get better shots of them that way. The fox was the only one that didn't come in over the top and from above.
