That's pretty interesting, normal "winter" activity here as far as I can see. But I saw a flock of robins while out and about yesterday.

Keep your boots dry and your powder too.

I remember when a fur check was reality.....now I'm just trapping for the love of it.

Best Regards,

JT

Yes. More so years back when buck doe ratio was different.
I always thought natures way of spreading out the fawn crop drop times.
As in, if they all dropped the same week and a flood hit.
Got trail cam?

Does come back into heat every 28 days until they are bread.
I have seen activity into March in years past. Even saw a buck fight in late February
Tells me to the buck doe ratio is out of wack most of the time.
Sometimes it's also YOY does entering there first heat cycle.
Just my opinion though. A lot of variables to consider also.

There's a town close to me that doesn't allow hunting and the population is getting way out of control. Last year while doing a job in that town we saw a fawn born on Oct 3rd.

It's not uncommon for a couple doe fawns to come into heat in early Feb, but finding a lightly worked scrape doesn't automatically mean rut activity. There are some scrapes that will get lightly worked all year long, it's just a social thing. I've seen scrapes in May-June that have been "worked".

Where I live there are many places where the deer get concentrated into 15 to 25 deer groups because no trespassing ,safety zone ,small sanctuary areas . I think this puts young doe of the year .in daily contact with mature bucks .That means the breeding activity is more possible because of the daily contact . It has been happening more here in the past ten years That results in buck that grow their first set of antlers at about at 8 or 9 months . Generally they are small antlers because the deer is not an adult . Any of those late born fawns take an extra year of growth to catch up to the fawns born in late May,early June

Deer work scrapes year round in certain spots. These type of scrapes have nothing to do with rutting behavior.

very common on large deer population densities, and as stated yoy doe coming in. that is why mock scrapes and scents work right up to the end of the season.

Wide variability in breeding and birthing dates is normal for most species, and why they are able to adapt to a wide variety of altitudes and latitudes across their ranges. This is also why the dire predictions of species extinction from a few degrees of temperature change in an area are BS.

Last year found a dead spotted fawn in flood water.
In August, no late "rut"?

Last month on trail cam I saw what I "think" is it's twin. Runt with tiny forks.
In the past I've seen runts grow into bruisers in a few years.

Defies internet science lol.( Sarc. from Dr, A days.)

I'm not Dr Science, just got caught in another yack session, think I'da learned by now.
Carry on.

Sorry if I misunderstood your point, but no one is saying that late breeding doesn't happen. It happens all the time. But scrapes don't equal breeding activity.

There where several other scrapes all opened or new started ones in the area I saw maybe six or seven .I agree that scraping can happen any time of year I also have seen it in May and June . But at the end of last week I saw a doe running a customary rut behavior pattern also . Which leads me to believe that this is likely rutting bucks doing the scraping

Down here I’ve seen antlerless mature bucks tending a doe in early April during turkey season. We’ll have spotted fawns in Nov and even Dec. They generally start dropping in May.
Community scrapes stay active year round. Even found a matched set of shed next to a scrap and what appeared to be the start of a new rub, before the antlers fell off.

Back in the early 90's I was still hunting a cedar thicket during gun season .(second week in Nov), When I almost stepped on a spotted fawn . It couldn't have been more than a couple months old. It stood up and ran about 15 yards and stood looking around. I never saw momma but I am sure the fawn didn't survive the winter. Didn't have cell phone cams back then.. Man wish I had............
