What are you guys using with your dog proof trap to help attach the raccoons? I've tried Peanut butter with limited success, even though if I put it out for the deer in front of my cameras they love it. I have had the most success with putting some shelled corn inside and around the traps. I only trap on my farm along the field edges and a small stream so not sure if that would determine what I should use or not.

I’ve been using cat food and blackies fatal attraction on the trap lip. Fish oil with shellfish oil mixed in for added scent. Squirted around set for added smell

Or just pack em with jack mack. That gets expensive if you’re running a bunch of traps tho

I use a lot of mini-marshmallows for multiple reasons - mainly because it's fast, easy, clean (I don't get all sorts of goop stuck in my DPs), and I see a decent level of success with it. The beginning of this year, I used nothing but mini-marshmallows and maybe a squirt of salmon oil or fish oil next to it, and seemed to do pretty well with that. Once my catch slowed down, I switched over to using sardines or some sort of tuna in oil and did okay with that, too. In the past, I've also caught coons in DPs with dry cat food, dry dog food, and even fish food. They'll basically eat anything. I just start out with mini-marshmallows because it's so convenient and it works. I put 4-5 marshmallows inside and then sprinkle a few on the ground in front of the DP, or make a small trail leading to it. I like for them to be able to get some free food before they're interested in what's inside and down near the trigger.

I go get some carp in the summer time and then can it and it is just like sardines. Then when I want to set traps I take a jar and add some honey and a cap full of vanilla.Works great as long as your on sign.

I get a cheap bag of cat food and put a couple of glugs of the wife’s vanilla extract in it and shake it around good. Seems to work for me. I also tried the coon grabbers that go under the trigger this year. Some traps had them and some didn’t. It may have been just a qouincidence but the ones that had the coon grabbers caught more coons.

I started using dry dog food and artificial vanilla extract like 12point said. Add a few drops of Green Death to the rim and a few drops up high to spread the smell. Worked very well for me this year.

I like the vanilla extract addition - haven't heard that before. I'll have to try that, too.

Diced granny Smith apples under the trigger. Top it with a schploob of squeeze grape jam to keep the apple pieces from rolling out and to leave some sticky residue on the trigger for that "one last pull"
50-50 mix of honey and imitation vanilla in a squirt bottle to squirt near the trap. I add some anise oil to it if I remember where I left it.
I catch raccoons which aren't even hungry with this.

Cheap cat food and molasses here, sometimes I use strawberry jello with it too. Make it up about a good couple months before season and the dry cat food soaks up all the molasses so it's not sticky bit smells.like it. Fish oils on the cat food works too, so do sardines mashed up, and caramel flavoring and also yes vanilla.

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.
