I got to think if there was enough want for an attendant to pump gas some station would already do it. Maybe have those people that just don't want the hassle as regulars.. I'm pretty sure lot of the jobs some of us did at 16. Are now deemed to dangerous for a 16 year old to do. To much responsibility/liability for a mere child.. So my guess be some half wit 18-19 year old be one pumping gas now days..
I do find some irony in how many folks complain about self check outs in stores. Then go out side pump their won gas and are fine with it..Personally I don't think there needs to be a law of any kind to regulate any that stuff..
What ever happened to free market?
I pump my own gas then get right out there in that left lane drive right at speed limit..Makes the world crazy place.
Mac Driving in the left lane on an interstate in Illinois will get you a ticket unless you are "over taking and passing another vehicle"

I just don't get why left lane is for speeders?? if there is a posted speed limit. I'm doing the posted speed limit. Why does someone...anyone need to pass me?? if their not speeding?.. left lane just for the people who think they know how to drive better?? I know I have to move left to go around people that can't seem to drive speed limit in right lane.. ok I merge left. In seconds got dozen cars right up my hind end all POed until I got room go back right...Who or what they over taking be sides me at posted limit??? Mac

When I went to Alaska it was that way too. When & where was that ? I have never seen that anywhere in the state that I have been . Me neither. In Delta there Is one pump at the Buffalo fuel center where you can get full service.

I pumped gas back in the late 60s. Always gave that windshield extra treatment on those hot summer days when a good lookin' gal would pull in. Me too Muskrat!! I can think of one particular windshield I almost wore out on the driver's side!!

I liked the old days where you pulled up to the pump and the guy came out with a uniform on,pumped your gas,checked the oil,washed the windshield,and kicked the tires.
They used to be called a "service" station because they provided a service.
And they gave you a gift like a drinking glass!

Thousands of gallons of gas are pumped everyday at do it yourself pumps without complications. This is a solution looking for a problem. Just about sums it up

It seems like a silly law but I don't think there is room to question the work ethic of those employed to do the work. Unless it's a make work for those on welfare or 1/2 way houses after prison.

It's not safety - they said it was to make jobs for people. Illinois raised the minimum wage this last year and s many people are leaving that the tax base is shrinking and they need to mandate jobs now to pay their taxes.

I pump my own gas here in Oregon. That's cuz I have a fleet card because i'm a business person.
That answers the why question. They ASSume you know what you are doing.

$15 per hour is not a living wage. Can't repay student loans at that rate. How many years college do I need to pump gas, lol?

Sounds like state I won't want live in, countryside nice wooded alot places , but other that, about all I like about that state. There broke for 1 thing, don't keep up roads. Many other reason not care for Illinois. I live close, oftentimes on freeway. Right past town I live in, get passed up , oftentimes more not , Illinois plates, they think cone Iowa an pass everyone up is cool, like better Iowans, make fun out iowa, get csll pig farmer, I think k Illinois sucks other countryside, all bizarre crimes here on news Illinois, more police corruption there., Never go there
