This is my first time ever putting up fur. I have an 8 inch fleshing beam made of ash. Any standard practice for cleaning between use? I've been wiping it down with a wet rag and some borax when I'm done.

Just wipe it down with a wet rag and soapy water. Save the borax for cleaning a brightening dried fur pelts.

The only constant in trapping is change so keep learning.

Thanks bctomcat. From what I gather on searching through here, guys sprinkle borax on dried fur and the comb or vacuum it out in order to clean and brighten it?

I spray mine with WD-40.It will dissolve grease and dirt and you can wipe the beam clean with a shop towell.

I take the dull edge of my fleshing knife and just scrap off any build up.

I wipe my beam down with a old towel then after I'm done for the year I'll sand down any rough spots then apply a coat of turtle wax paste to it then set it in the he sun to " bake " it in so to speak.

My beam Is so impregnated with grease nothing would penetrate It's surface.

Using a pvc beam - wipe it down with a little sawdust. Doesn't take much, about 1/2 of a handful and cleans it right up.
I save the sawdust from my table saw - got a box underneath the table that the dust falls into.
