I don't know from experience but I read on here somewhere that they do two of the normal responses, Roll or dig. I think it was in the archives.

Ya can't miss fur if yur traps are out somewhere.
Or so I've been told.

One of the South’s best kept secrets.
Just buy a couple dozen eggs ($1 a dozen at the Dollar Tree) and set outside for a few days and then just place one in a deep dirt hole set. I can’t smell an egg even after they’ve set out a week, but a coyote can and it will look like an excavator has been digging on your set.
Caught a couple coyotes and moved the trap outside the catch circle and just sorta smoothed over the original set and hole. Something dug it out all the way to the egg and all that was left was the shell outside the hole. They will find them...an egg and urine. Works on all critters. Best eggs are ones that came straight off the nest.

So you do or do not break the egg once it is placed in the hole?

They want to eat it is my experience, which means a digging response if they work the set aggressively. I bet you could add other ingredients that might cause other reactions but by itself it seems to be a digging response. I will say it seems to me coyote will pee on or near a lot of unique odors whether its food, curiosity or a territorial formulation.

I will say this, you will learn more testing yourself.

Don’t crack the egg, just roll it down the hole. I had no luck with eggshells. That egg gives off an odor I can’t smell, but critters can.

A golf ball does the same thing ! I use a BB size amount of powder river under the ball , no egg needed !

Skunks love it. I tried it last season with more nontarget catches than normal.
Now I only use it in cages when I'm after skunks.
Just my experience

Golf balls do smell when they are new ! I only use the ones I find out on the edge of the golf course. I don’t think the egg has enough smell to draw in any predator by its self , but that’s not why I don’t use them . Around here they will freeze and break , a ping pong ball will float to the top when it rains and whiffle ball with cotton or wool inside can be plucked from the hole by a coyote. I’ve tried all versions of this egg type set over the years, I settled on the golf ball and powder river paste bait .

Sorry Mousey I know this got off track from where you started . To answer your question the fermented egg alone will draw a coyote and I’ve used it under my fake egg ( golf ball ) it does not work as well for me as the powder river . I do like the egg in other formulas.

Wonder how so many turkey, quail, duck, etc eggs are destroyed on the nest? Guess just luck of the draw since eggs have no smell? And those aren’t even fermented.

It's not the eggs so much as the scent left behind from the sitting hen.

Anything white In the hole Is more of a eye appeal thing then a scent thing. Some of the best lure I ever used was SFE synthetic fermented egg.
