Anyone heard anything on Indiana getting a bobcat season anytime soon? I sure am getting a lot of trail cam pics of them and itching to get one for the wall.

I hope you get a season, haven't trapped one myself, but they are magnificent creatures!

It won't be for a few seasons at least. They tried a couple years ago and the anti everything crowd threw a fit and the state gave in so it'll be a while before they try again. Our Furbearer Biologist want to hear about sightings and see pics so she can record them and have some proof we have a good population for the next try. So any and every time anyone see one they should call her.

Blankenship I hope we get one soon as well. I believe it was trappers and hunters fault we didn't get a season. They had meeting for input and more anti's showed up and we didn't. I was one of those that decided not to go thinking it would pass. I understand hunters and trappers have to work to pay the bills. I am retired and work part time could have went decided to go to work instead. It will not happen again.
Been catching two or three cats each year for the last five or six years.

Hoosier trapper has a very good article/blog post written by Charlie as why it failed to pass in his archives I believe. Very little support from trappers and hunters at the initial hearings plus I believe it was tied up with some other legislation that hurt it.

No, not really, our season is done, I got started late and was mainly targeting coyotes. Not knowing (then) the simplicity of a cat set, I'm gonna hit em hard next season! Ive had some GREAT advice/mentorship the last couple weeks, such a great community this is!

If you get over to Iola go in the bait shop and talk to the owner. He is pretty knowledgeable about a lot of stuff trapping related. has a decent selection of lure bait and traps too.

I would like to see us get a season on them as well. I see a few every year. I think I saw some tracks on my farm on some logs in the snow. But I'm more track reading expert. I cut the feet off a fox and coyote
this year to make tracks in the mud to show my boys ( & myself). There were no toe nail marks in the tracks in the snow on the logs but I guess they could have been fox tracks? I need to get some trail cams.
