Bites dont matter for the hatter market-what matters is hvy underfur.

Maybe I'm wrong.
Under fur -I never seen a price differance between northern and southern hatter beavers.
Weight- Northern beaver have more fur than southern beaver. But northern beaver have thinner leather than a southern beaver.SO they weigh about the same.

My southern Ga beaver caught in spring, summer and early fall have brought the same as winter caught. These were skint and frozen when sold....past few years.

They make felt out of the underfur, not the guard hair. They want pelts with underfur for felt hat market. The flat summer ones aren't going for felt hats.
Check out the NAFA video there is a good section on the felting of hats.If someone is paying you the same for winter beaver as they are for flat summer beaver they are ripping you off.
Flat summer beaver have no use in the fur trade, maybe for a specialty leather, but never heard of it.

That's where the few I've caught have went and the same "grading."

$8 per pelt for 2 year olds and older. $3 for yearlings. Skint and frozen.
