When making a lure that calls for fish oil, would you recommend using pressed or sun rendered fish oil and why? Thanks in advance!

Sun rendered is more attractive, has a stronger odor and most important holds it odor longer.

True sun rendered fish oil will always be the best choice for formulation work. It holds its true odor character and gives body to a formula forever. It never dissipates in odor.

That is our go to choice when needing a good sun rendered fish oil. Trout oil is our go to oil as we make that in house. Paddle fish oil is very good as well if available to you.

Man made synthetic fish oils and pressed oils have a totally different odor presence as you will find when you work with both over time. Sun rendered oils are somewhat sweet and very bold in flavor. Smell a pressed fish oil of any type side by side with a good sun rendered oil. That is all it takes.

You won't ask that question again in your lifetime.

Good top oil, not juice is your best choice in my experience. Fish juice is typically a more rancid odor material. The juice is primarily a byproduct water based residual material which is the left over waste from rendering fish oil. The putrid juice can be used in call lures or bait station/draw type products.

If the lure isn't too expensive to replicate make two batches. One with pressed oil and one with rendered trout oil. Let them age then evaluate them side by side again.

I "assumed" that the sun rendered would be the correct choice, however I have both the pressed oil and the Jameson Ultra Blend sun rendered trout oil on hand and it made me wonder if the sun rendered would be to bold and overpowering for the additional ingredients to come out. Now I know. Thank you

You should build or add strong bold ingredients a little at a time at first. This way you hopefully will control your final odor result better. Even if you would have a strong fish oil presence doesn't mean it is bad thing.
