I got to wondering what the death rates were from a confirmed global epidemic. The only one I could think of was Rhubella. Prevelent during my youth.
I Googled rhubella and found number of deaths from 1950 to 1960 were 4560. I won't bore you with the dates per year but I have them if you are really interested..
According to MSN the death rate from Corona virus to date is over 3000
Personally I think the rhubella numbers are low but that is what the graf showed.

Comments welcome
just.

It seems as though this is just getting started and has the potential to be bad, I hope I'm wrong.

I am wondering about reinfection rates. If enough eventually contract it there is a good chance we may be subjected to several rounds of it as I have not read anywhere about building up an immunity.

It can also morph into much more deadly strains like the spanish flue did.

Polio in the40's and 50's was very scary. If it mangled your body, i guess you was lucky just crippled for life. Other wise if it got in your chest muscles you could die because you couldn't breathe. Every time I had an ache or pain my mom would rush me to the old doctor.

Also cholera was bad, I have mowed cemeteries and there would be whole families buried together from it and typhoid was bad and still is.

In 2010 when they had cholera in Haiti after the earth quake it was horrible. The price of doxy went to $3 a pill. Its amazing that a little pill can be the difference between life and death.

The people that came up with Ivermectin , I think it came from Japan and is made from clay, there wasn't the market they hoped for and found out it was good for prevention of river blindness in Africa. Caused from a fly that lives in water or is born in water anyway. The company gave it away by the millions of pills and stopped the terrible outbreak of it. If you need it here its pretty cheap for animals it kills worms, mange and such by paralyzing them. For humans its not so cheap, in 2010 it was $8 a pill, don't know the price now.

Life has always had struggles with famine and plagues. There seems to most always be a cure, but the lapse from the start until the cure can be a scary time.

An old Luthern once told me they would all take communion from the same chalice, but when Tuberculosis came on the scene they had to quit the practice.

Just threw out some different thoughts of some of the cruelties of life and there is plenty more.

World mortality rates are between 3-4 %which is many times higher than measles, or typical flu etc. Up to 14% in elderly and those with health issue and very low in children and healthy adults. Countries with high elderly populations and also many with poor health and well being in their population may well suffer significantly. The "community spread" aspect now indicates this virus may have been circulating worldwide for months already.

The global economy will slow dramatically with the consistent spread and death numbers. The stock market took a big hit when corona made headlines. It took another today even with huge lowering of interest rates. Stock market capitalist know that cheap money won't help a water treading world economy. When world economies start announcing quarterly GDP numbers in April things could get real concerning for billions.

Keep in mind, the world population in 1960 was around 3 billion, now it is closer to 8 billion.

Another thing to remember as far as the rates right now is there is a lot of undiagnosed people out there now.. They arent really testing the people in China that has it. They are just counting the people with symptoms with coronavirus.

Actual mortality rate for CV (corona virus aka COVID-19 aka SARS-CoV-2) outside of China is 0.7%.
For China only it is 2-4%.
For Iran only it is 1.0%.

Thus far morbidity has been under reported by an estimated 2-50x.
So the actual kill rate for CV is 0.04% at most.
The kill rate for the common flu is 0.5%-1.0%.
For SARS (aka SARS-CoV <- note the lack of the "2") it's 10.0% by the way,
and that's still out there - spreading and killing.
Not hearing much about SARS though, are we???

We know the media is lying to us. Once the media moves on to the next crisis,
CV will be just another form of the flu. Most people will catch it,
most will be just fine if they're under 70 years old and
don't have serious underlying medical issues.

Still, better to be cautious than reckless.

Arnold classic has cancelled spectators and expo. As usual govt responds too late. I dont get it,they bring them here from china when it was hit.

I hear ya but, I believe the govt, despite the spread, is handling this as well as can be expected. They are dealing with a new, somewhat unpredictable virus. Once the learning curve catches up with the infection rate we will see a dramatic drop in the numbers. Personal responsibility has a lot to do with the spread also. If you were in china, I guess you should have stayed in China, atleast till this blows over.
