Can Double Loop Chain work on drags.

It's not the best choice.
I will say YES. Unless you are trapping Wolves.
What species are you rigging up for?

Will it work, yes. Is it ideal, no.

I use #3 select chain but I always plan for canines or cats. Smaller critters don't seem to go far.

If it is for mink coon or rats. Yes. I use straight link welded for everything else.

The only wolves in his part of the state are the two legged kind.

I said "his" part of the state, but I'm only about 30 min. from him.....

We do have all color shades in my area.

you chain up a 25 pound dog with that stuff that doesn't want to stay on a chain, it will hold that dog two weeks tops. If it were me as i could replace it i would.

I don't use twin loop chain, period; straight-link for me!

fine for small critters, but when a yote opens twist link for you, it is a hard lesson learned.

If they do not open twisted link , they will sure stretch it good .

As long as it holds it's just fine ,,, a while back I come across a pile of it used it until I started to get nervous changed it out.

The thing about drags and chain Is that once the critter hangs up and gets all tangled In the brush that chain will be less stressed and that brush will act as a shock absorber then Its all about your swivels.

I wouldn't use it here in the Black Hills due to incidental mountain lion catches. I use straight loop exclusively. Try to have J hooks welded shut also.

I run 2/0 loop chain on mine. I have caught countless bobcats and coyotes with it. Never had any issues yet. I couldn't order #3 machine chain at the time. I got the 2/0 chain local at a deal. I run 10 ft with 4 to 5 swivels . I prehook my drag. I did get 100ft #2 machine chain free. Going to use it.

The one thing I find in favor of twin loop chain is that the chain itself grabs every piece of grass or brush. Does make a better drag trail on ground without snow. Slide a length of each kind of chain across your arm and you'll see how much grabbing each does. It does not have the diameter of wire usually that #2 or 3 chain does, though.

I say use what is available, i had drags setup for years with twin loop chain. They did just fine held some big coyotes, as i got more into using drags i went all out. I bought some heavy duty drags and set them up with #5 chain and j.c. conner springs in also. Sure like the setup i got now, i now use this setup for everything from mink - to- wolfs.

Twin loop chain of a large enough gage is probably OK (2/0,3/0 and yes I have some 4/0). However the area of the loops (2 loops per 1 link) and its link length make it real cumbersome to store and use. Straight link and twist link of the same gage (wire diam.) is stronger, easier to store, and tangle free as the fellows above have mentioned. Ever shove a bunch of 110 size BGs in a bucket and reach in to grab a 120 size that you inadvertently stuck half way down? The twin loop seems to grab ahold of everything coming back out. I switched all my chain out to straight link or twist length about 15-18 years ago on all my traps (BG's and footholds) for mere convenience and haven't looked back. I use sizes from 1,2,3,1/0 to 2/0 matched to the trap size. Twin loop is lighter in weight than strait or twist and will work fine on drags, if large enough wire diam. is used (as stated by bobcat trapper and The Beav). The 3N has used twist link (of sufficient size) for a lot of years with no problems even if it is rated for slightly less working strength than straight link. my take ................ the mike .

that chain on 3n's is not twisted together, no weld, twin loop chain like is on other victor traps. the kinkless chain on 3n's is what was on newhouse traps at the time.
