Kittery , Maine has a nice outlet area with the Kittery Trading post. Great store , right over the line from NH.
Also , NH has some very affordable liquor stores right off I95 heading into Maine. Run by the state of NH , almost duty free shop prices , NH has no sales tax.

Unless you're interested in going to the Maine Coast you can see a lot of beautiful country within an 8 hour drive of Cooperstown. The Adirondacks, Green Mountains and White Mountains are all relatively close by and they all have good trout water.

When you hit Maine, get off 95 and take rt1 up the coast nd stop at whatever catches yer eye. Brunswick, Bath, Boothbay are great stops. The Maine Prison Store is a must see in Tomaston.

Also enjoy day and overnight trips out to Monhegan Island. Monhegan Island is the land that time forgot! No cars allowed there. Very peaceful!

The Maine coast is great, but you need to get off of Rt.1 and take the side roads down to the little fishing villages to see the real Maine. Kittery Trading Post is nice. Bob's clam shack next door if you like seafood. Moving up Rt.1 the Maine Diner has great food. Kennebunkport to see the Bush family compound. .Boothbay Harbor is nice, as is the Pemaquid point light house. Acadia National Park is a must.Take the coastal route. Leaving there take RT.2 across Maine, New Hampshire and into Vermont for scenery.Vermont is beautiful. If you like history, New York has Fort Ticonderoga, Fort William Henry, Lake George, and Saratoga battlefield. As for fishing take a charter on Lake Ontario., fabulous fishing.
