Great writing for 9 years old and also a great understanding and perspective shown as well.

It seems obvious that she has a good mind and great family circle.

It was a pleasure to read her letter and thanks for posting it up.

thanks guys. Good to hear encouraging words especially right now, it helps. Morgan caught her second lynx of the year yesterday. Another big male fluff ball in a snare. She almost had a double but her other snare was an inch or two too high. Ahhh shucks! We were happy though for her catch and nothing makes me more happy than seeing her big smile when she see the snare stick missing. Lynx activity has really picked up like it always does in march. Now Ill just be keeping an eye on the top of the lynx shoulders. Once the hair starts slipping there its time to call it a season. My son is also enjoying checking his sisters snares and hes looking forward to getting started too.

My kids are my world. The reason I get up and face the day each morning. Id do anything for them.

My Grandpa Freddie at about 12 years old. Homemade clothes from head to toe. Him and his Dad always had matching clothes.

I still trap the same lakes. My Grandpa had to put all his lessons to use shortly after at a young age when he had to take care of the family by hunting, trapping, fishing, hauling wood and everything else the man of the house has to do. He would paddle to the wood hauling place every morning in the fall at age 13 to stockpile for winter and load enough to last at home for the night then hunt rabbits as he paddled the several miles home. He had to follow dog team trails to find the caribou hunting grounds on his own at age 13-14 occasionally getting lost but "The dogs always knew where they were" and they brought him home more than once in whiteout conditions . Lots of tough lessons but he would go on to become one of the very best caribou hunters in Aklavik. The man who would go and find the caribou first and let the others know. Im lucky to have learned and continue to learn so much from him. Im thankful every day for the teaching style he used with me too. Tough but patient never answering my million questions with a simple "because" but rather taking the time to make sure I understood. One lesson ill share today happened when I was 11 years old. I shot a caribou in the back, paralyzing its back legs. He watched as I walked over to shoot it again and as I loaded my 30-30 he said "WAIT!" as he pulled his trusty old hickory, file sharpened knife from his belt. He took my gun, handed me his knife and told me what to do. I did what I was told and had the biggest shot of adrenaline ive ever had up to that point of my life. With shaking legs I asked why he made me finish the caribou off like that because that was pretty intense and a bit scary. His answer was "Then don't shoot them in the back anymore!!" Better go and have a visit soon.

Ryan wonderful pictures as always what a great paper Morgan did for school and I'm jealous of her catching lynx and then getting to go you're main trap line . You just can't make much better memories than that for your family .
Enjoy your weekend and Stay Safe out there !

Yup. Approved for lynx. That’s probably why the wolverine got out. On a technicality

Maybe put a shock spring or 2 on your chain. i always pull those junky one's that come with the #3's off and add an inline JC Connor wolf spring. I find it helps lots.

Ryan are those #3s the 4 coil spring models or the lighter ones with 2 coils? My son had a wolverine pull out of one this year too and it had 4 springs.

That letter is awesome!

Metis- all my #3 traps have 1/8 cable but if I switch to chain ill give those springs a try.
Y254-I have the 2 spring model. Ive never had wolverine pull out of them before this year. Could be weakened or maybe just bad luck. I think warm weather helped him get out too. Normally the cold would help keep his foot in there. We've been getting lots of snow and drifting so its possible the traps were slow and didn't get a solid catch. Either way its like Morgan told me at the camp after she got tired of hearing me complaining about the loss. "Ahhhhhh you'll live without it"

Ha ha thats true you will live without those gulo! Smart kids you got. I think down here we are not supposed to set those traps specifically for wolverine but they are certified for lynx so kinda hard to keep the gulos out of them! Im going to get a bunch of the 4 coil and give them a try. You sure got some nice light coloured lynx up there! Ours are usually darker.
