Excellent video. Thanks for sharing. Very straightforward, well-explained and informational. Just curious, do you prefer snares to 330 conibears? And if so, what are the advantages and disadvantages to using both? Thanks again.

It can be a very productive method for harvesting beaver, I never pass up an easy run I will stick in a 330 trap but if I can find enough water snares poles work great this time of year.
Understand that we have roughly 2 feet of ice and the runs are buried in snow so setting snare poles is fast.

Great video Jim, that's a spring tonic to get outside when the Geese begin flying and water starts moving!! Thanks for this one!

I quit running a bait pole down to the bottom as the beaver usually chewed it off where the snares aren't. the ice around here is 10-24 in. thick and they usually cut the bait off up in the hole. Don't they do that where you are. Gibb?

Generally they try and chew it off near the top close to the ice. I always hang two snares right at ice level. One of the reason I wait till March is to stop them from freezing to the ice. If I do this in Jan/Feb the beaver sometimes freeze to the ice and than it is a lot more work. In March I have to worry more about the poles freezing in.

Jim,If your worried about the poles not freezing in enough before a catch, take a couple ice blocks that you cut from the hole and put one on each end of your crosser/safety pole.

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

Good video Jim. Have a few areas that this would work well in. Wouldn't have to have such a heavy pack to get in there with. Thanks a lot!

I find the problem is coming out with a large pack full of beaver the killer. LOL

Gibb, large pack for the sled?

Hint for anyone new to beaver. Easy in, bad words out...
