https://www.yahoo.com/finance/news/breaking-fmcsa-likely-grant-hours-215507465.html

Last time I was told I could drive as much as I wanted was for flood relief in in S.W. MO. 3-4 years ago. Sure is funny that it is ok to put in long hours for someone else's benefit but any other time you can't be trusted to sleep when you need too.

We used to just call log books comic books or funny books. Then computers came along. At first it was just a date/time stamp on fuel receipts rather than hand written receipts you could get any date you wanted put on them. D.O.T. started looking at credit card statements also. Now of course there is a computer spying on drivers 24/7. Truck drivers are the only people I am aware of that must document their time, 100% of the time, working hour, time off hours, days off hours and vacation every second, every minute, every hour, every day, every week, every month, every year that they are still working.

except when they are not.

I understand that regulations are onerous for the truckers. Thanks for hauling stuff across the USA. They also have to pay to take a shower. Most people simply run to the bathroom to take a shower. Hopefully truck stops don't start charging for tp.

I appreciate what truckers do. Now please move out of the left lane.

If you got it, a truck brought it.

I appreciate what they do but also glad they are regulated closely. Anytime a persons compensation is tied to the miles they put on, there is temptation to stretch it, its only natural. And if a truck driver falls asleep, that is one big piece of metal crossing the centerline. If truck drivers only killed themselves when falling asleep, then scrap the regulations and let them decide if they want to take chances....unfortunately, we know better. Again, thanks for what you do, but sleep is good...

Hope you dont go 80 on the stretch of i90 i drive everyday. It's somewhat unnecessarily posted 55 mph. Avg speed still runs 65 or so. Doubt anyone gets pulled over under 70. All ill ask is to not pass going 52 up a grade. Kinda backs things up. Then all the really impatient dips run back to the right lane and try to get around causing the rest of us to have to wait longer to get back to cruising speed.

Yep Danny..
Then if you believe the TV shows about Doctors a or at least the residents.. Them folk is almost like some right of passage to work on people when they can't barely stand for want of sleep..Funny how we have pigeon hole some folks and let other run Willie nillie.. We all know that someone that can do their job for hours none stop no problem. Then the other who can't get in 8 hours without a nap break..Or they get hurt or hurt someone else..
I know I'm one can't drive for long without getting dozy even when had a good night sleep. Got pull over take a break get back after it..
As for the gps they have on cars and trucks now..get in a crash and on star can tell the cops just how fast ya was going.

If only the loaded trucks I follow went 52mph. They are usually doing about 15-20 mph.

I too am one that tends to cuss a trucker from time to time, but not much. When I take a trip I try to drive at night. After 11 or 12 at night it’s just me and the trucks. Most of the idiots driving cars are off the road. These truckers are professionals who do this for a living. Are you really in such a hurry that when he puts on his turn signal you can’t back and give a trucker a break. If your coming to a hill pull in the passing lane or speed up so the truck can get a running start. Most of the time if a trucker is interfering with your progress there’s not much he can do. Give a trucker a break and he’ll return the favor

I just think its a bit disingenuous to penalize somebody so severely for working to much in order to benefit themselves, then encourage it if it will benefit others. Yes there have been problems with amphetamines and people falling asleep. This new computer monitoring hasn't changed that. In the old days I would park at a truck stop for say six hours. Spend an hour or so eating and showering. Sleep five, grab a couple biscuit cheese sausage and egg sandwichs, and back on the road. That could potentially get you a big fine and D.O.T. forcing you to park for 36 hours.

The guy in that same truckstop, that was there 10 hours, stayed up all night playing with the fancy ladies, watching tv, and visiting other drivers at the counter in the restaurant, pulls out half asleep and legal as your back door.

You can't force people into responsibility.

So anyway now thats all suspended, again, which is pretty funny to me.

if you want to know what caused 90% of accidents due to fatigue before computers came along look at dispatchers.

Best advice I ever got was when you say no to a dispatcher they get unhappy but they get over it. If they retaliate by giving you back to back short loads or whatever just take a few days off somewhere without calling in. With a load on. A guy that works steady and does what he says he will wont have any more dispatcher trouble.
