How to anchor 330s under ice? #6802148

I'm new to trapping and just got my first Belisle 330s. I am primarily interested in under-ice beaver, and would like to know how to anchor the traps, since the Belisle's don't come with chain. I have seen some people recommend 2/0 chain, but that seems like crazy overkill for a beaver. What kind of chain and how long? Do I put swivels in it? What do I anchor it to?

Thanks for your help.

Anchor them above the ice with wire or cable. If using a dry support pole wire the trap spring eye to pole and tie off pole above ice to a crosser/safety pole.If using a stand, just wire the top of stand together and run crosser/safety pole thru the legs of stand above the ice.
Beaver dont last long under ice in a bodygrip.

I run a dry pole through the eyes and adjust for depth.

I add about 5' of cable to my 330's. Plenty long but gives me enough cable to tie off to something. Also have done like Posco suggested.

One pole thru each spring eye hole and wire to what depth you want.

I run 10 feet of cable on my 330s with a swivel right at the trap.

You've not had my luck ive had this season. I had one beaver completely move the trap off the stand. Another pulled the stand, while I was remaking another set. I've had plenty of floods too on my lines and they all ways get tied off with the stands.

Always tie off the stand,or tie the top together and run a safety pole thru the legs on top of the ice. [Linked Image]

For me I use a snap with a chain for the top of my tall H stands like you use Boco with wire .That way I do not have wire to work with.

2 more today out of 7 sets. A pole between legs is a good idea. I trap small ponds and streams so it is not quite an issue if one would get the stand out as it would be in big water of under ice. If you notice the tails on my beaver, I could never win a tail contest. They don't need big tails in small water..

Wish I had more time to trap....
