I hate how you guys make it look so easy. Im trying like crazy just to get my first yote. I swear by now I feel like I should have accidentally caught one by now. Congrats on the good work neighbor!

Haha! You have me confused with other folks on here. I struggle with coyotes as much as anyone on here, just get lucky every now and then. And when I catch one I’m like a little kid on Christmas day, lol. I rounded the corner and couldn’t see my flag and knew I had something. The minute I saw him I called the manager and told him to send his boys to the road I was on and I’d let them dispatch and take some pics. They were about to check their route of cage traps anyways and came straight there. I got to explain what the set was and reset it, then put a dirt hole set across from it in the burn. I had been worried about marking my sets this year, but it hasn’t seemed to affect their reaction to it so far. I knew once we got burning the critters would show up!! Been really slow the last couple of weeks.

Animals love a fresh burn.First things that show up here after the bush burns is ruffed grouse. As soon as the ground is cool enough for them to walk on they show up all over, picking up roasted grubs mostly. No trapping here when the fire season is on-late may, early june is fire season here.

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

On my buddy’s property now I have out about 7 sets. There is an old logging road running through the center of the property. Tracks and scat all down the road. They are definitely there. Mostly it was the torrential rains we were getting that were messing me up for the majority of the winter. Hoping for some luck this time. Ill be hanging it up before it gets too hot down here. Start back up in the fall. I am an excellent self taught beaver trapper but I am still green when it comes to land trapping. Since Ive started Ive caught a grey and red fox and it seems like every dang possum in the state of Georgia.

In the background of the coyote pic you’ll see a green field...this is a camera on that field. This is why we trap... [Linked Image]

That there is quite a photo. Wow.
I never knew yotes are attracted to burns. Burns are rare around here nowadays. I think too many people have had them get away from them over the years.

Down here plantations burn every year. What was burned last year will not be burned this year, and vice versa. It seems the coyotes don’t show up in numbers until we start burning. Don’t know if they’re looking for crispy critters or it’s easier to spot prey, but my numbers increase. With that being said, our “Spring” has been more like Summer. We’ve already hit the 90’s! But, we are supposed to get back to normal midweek, maybe they’ll pick up again.
Tried some “new” lure/bait today (not sure what its classified as) but I’ve read from many on here that have used it successfully on K9’s. If it works I’ll reveal it. Always wanted to try it so we’ll see, lol.

You probably have endless permission to turkey and quail hunt down there, with all the predators you trap smile

Hopefully that heat hasn't brought out those ants!

Turkeys yes...quail are King down here. We leave the quail for the big money folks. I do trap a couple of places just for a turkey the rest pay per critter and time. Made quite a few new friends that have offered deer hunts and fishing as well. I just enjoy trapping. Trying to make a critter put its paw on that little circle just brings a thrill almost like calling in a gobbler. Shoot, I’d trap for free, but gladly take the pay.
