I've grown the white popcorn a while back. But like Bob said, I thought my garden space was better used for other things. Garden space is a non issue, we have a huge garden at the farm. anyone ever discover a good way to shell it?

Easy to shell, just rub two cobs against each other with ends reversed. One always will be tougher than the other and will shell the second. Grab a second ear and repeat. We do not like the large kernel yellow varieties to eat, whether we grow or buy.

I have never grown it, but when I was a kid a farmer right across the road from our house grew a, probably, 40 acre field. When we hunted the field for pheasants we would pick up the corn the picker missed. We shelled it and we had lots and lots of popcorn. It did not pop very well at all. What we found out, with experimentation was, that the moisture content of the popcorn kernels greatly effected the way they popped. I remember my dad, who was a research chemist by trade, had all these little samples of popcorn that he was adjusting the moisture content of. He was either adding water or drying out, the different samples. When he found the right humidity/moisture level, the stuff popped very nicely. If the popcorn was too dry, or too wet, it would not pop properly. Once he figured out the right moisture level in his little samples I remember him adjusting the moisture level in the big containers of popcorn. My mom would peel apples and dad would pop popcorn and we would watch TV and eat popcorn and apples. Mom, bless her heart, would peel enough apples for a family of six. She peeled them with a paring knife, and when she was done with an apple the peel would be in one continuous piece, looking like a cork screw.
My name ain't Keith
