I've used #3 victor jumps for coyotes. I have some #2's as well but i just dont think the #2's have enough holding power for coyotes. They make a great fox trap though. As for the #3's, when they had the original pans it was tricky since half the time i sifted dirt over them they would fire, but I still caught and held coyotes with them. Since then I put all new PIT pans on them and laminated the jaws.and they work great. Never had the pan throw the paw out. always a good catch. They are good traps if you can fix that pan tension.

PIT pans on the 3's and 4's make it a whole new ball game.I always had problems with the pan tension too,it seems after a catch the trap had to be trap smithed to work again.Recently I bought some 4's that the seller had installed PIT PANS.WOW! What a difference.

An illustration would make this simple, but to describe it would go like this;a half notch filed into the pan shank,a half notch on the end of the dog so they fit together when trap is set.Like I said,a picture would make more sense than my definition.

The best conversion for the old jumps is the old Oberto dogless conversions. Both pan tension, and dogless, in one unit. You are talking old school and most will never have heard of this gentleman nor his dog less set up. Mac

The nice thing with Morse Oberto's 300 and 400 setups, were that you could put them on jumps (undersprings) and longsprings. You could use them as a modification, or to repair a broken trap cross. The 300's fit #3 sized traps, and the 400's fit #4's. They were made in the late 50's through early or mid 60's, in Iron Belt, WI. I have some unused kits, I can take a picture if you want. I have them on a lot of my #14 jumps. Paws-I-Trips work well on the jumps too, and are certainly easier to find, but still have a dog. You might find some Oberto's, if you post on the trap shed? I suppose they are getting rare though, these days....... I like the dogless design on the Oberto's, but their one drawback is they are a bit prone to freezing issues, in freeze/ thaw weather, for a ground bedded trap, since the pan hinge point is on the bottom of the cross.
