Finally made a catch in our only sandy spot on the place. This has normally been a “guarantee” spot, but this year nothing up until today’s catch. I was a little worried it was the little flags I was placing on the opposite side of the trap from the pipe. The manager asked that I flag my sets this year due to still trying to get firebreaks in and burning. [Linked Image]

Nice catch! Never had a problem with flags by my sets.

The ones up in the air pose no issue...it was the ones on the deck that I was worried about. But I’ll worry no more. I’ll start incorporating it at all the properties I trap. Lost 2 at the last property to a tractor and harrow!!

Most of the LO's are concerned about stepping in them or catching their dogs so started doing this several years ago and it has worked out well for me. My flags are about 8'-10' (some as close as 4') from my sets and tell them to stay at least 20' away from any flags they see. Only caught 1 dog in the past 3 years and the farmer felt bad about it as he seen the flag but the dog wouldn't listen to him. They also help me locate my sets after it snows. Losing traps to farm equipment sucks. Never found a trap that can stand up to it...

Im using old surveyor flags they throw away and they’re right on the deck. In fact, in this pic the coyote was caught in the farthest set.

The other traps are marked with cut saplings and only stand about 4-5ft tall.

One of the best micro-locations there is....in the middle of the road...between the wheel ruts. Critter will pass within inches of the set....gotta investigate.

Figure whichever rut they walk they’re bound to catch a whiff, lol. That’s normally my top producing spot, but we’re just now getting some burns going and they’re filtering in.

I do similar to 20scout, flag almost everything with surveyor's tape within about 20 feet or so of a set. I usually tie them about chest high and see zero issues with it. I'll flag directly above snares too and use it as a catch indicator.

I would have reservations with the flag in the pic, however. If it were me, I'd bundle up a little of that yellow grass in the upper-right or upper left and tie a little pink flag to it. If you have two sets I'd tie two little flags. Not flapping in the wind but so that they are essentially like a horizontal, two-inch piece at chest level or higher. That works great for me.

EDIT...looking at the pic background, I wonder if a set would do well where the tree line/ grass line coming in from the right meets the two-track. I like intersections like that. Cool pic.
