Seems like I am one of those guys who is always finding things - in the last two weeks I have found $38.00 in currency and change, a Drivers license, several credit cards, a gift card (with $20 on it) and a mans ring (worth about $165 no name in it).

Anyway... today I saw a sock while out walking and I was going to throw it into my trash bag which I bring along for garbage and noticed something hard inside. Turned out to be a magazine for a 9mm Glock. Yep, never know what you are going to find next. (Turned it over to a friend who is on the Police force)

BF

PS. Found the rest of the Glock yesterday. Barrel had been removed. Police spent three hours with me combing the area for the rest. Got a call before going to bed that it was used in a homicide.

I've found about a dozen wallets and 2 purses in my lifetime. Returned all of them intact. Most of them only had a small amount of cash , but one I found right after Christmas 2 years ago had over $400 in it.
What amazes me is most people I talk to about returning them say they would have just kept the money. The wallet I returned with the $400+ to the guy who owned it was so , so glad. He told me he was hoping on a Christmas miracle. He had already canceled all his credit cards. He gave me $50. I was happy with that. I earned it , not stole it. I sleep better at night knowing I'm doing the right thing.

Also found a loaded .22 magazine once too. Turned it into the police. It was involved in a crime ( gas station robbery) , don't know if they found the gun or made an arrest.

Not the kind of "ammo" I first thought of when I saw you found an old sock.

I was working at a gas station one time and a guy left behind his wallet. It had about $500 cash in it, which was about a months salary for me at the time. I tried looking him up in the phonebook but his license was from a different state.

He showed back up a few hours later and I returned his wallet, he counted his money and left me $5 LOL

Almost forgot - about eight years ago I found a whole bundle of $20 bills about three inches thick with some that weren't even printed yet! Turned that in too and the Police said it helped them break a counterfeit operation.

When I was managing a drug store,I found a big wad of bills.Put it in the safe.About 2 hours later a woman came in the door in tears, looking for the money she had been given to do the shopping.
She was one glad lady when I produced her cash.

I found a baggy of meth laying in the county road in front of my house. I threw it on the floorboards of my car, and not knowing what it was, drove around with it for a couple of days before I decided I should take it to the police to be checked out. The officer who took it from me told me it was probably flour and sent me home. When I got home he was on the phone and wanted to know the who, what, when and where. Glad I didn't get stopped while it was on the floor of my car.

Shooting ground hogs as a kid, sneaking doubled over behind a board fence that ran out to the road, I found a 20...then a 10, a few yards further another 20. Like $50 in all. I don’t remember if I got a groundhog.

Shelling corn one fall I found where some kids had made a camp in the middle of the field. I had to admire their achievement. There was not less than a full size couch, and a recliner surrounding a fire ring. But the magic touch was the basketball hoop.

You guys are killing me with your stories. It seems like some people find a lot of things - I remember when flip phones were the rage. I found 12 during the course of one year along a jogging path I used. They would put them in their hoodies and they jiggled out.

Found a wallet last year and called the Police to pick it up. They sent an officer who was a neighborhood kid I knew well. He kidded me about taking out all the cash!

Found a stainless S&W 357 mag with 2 speedloaders and a full ammo belt on a beach in northern CA . Turned it in to the local small town police station. They said they would run the number and if they couldn’t find the owner I could put a claim on it. Had to pay $11 for a newspaper ad. Went home and forgot about it. 2 months later they called and said I could pick it up at the Troopers office in a week

35 years ago during November gun dear season found a plastic bag with bloody women's clothes in it. Call the County police force who did an extensive search of the area and didn't come up with anything. That was the most interesting thing found. Have numerous hammers, a 4' wooden level, pliers, and a 3 ball trailer hitch all found on the road.

Found a long rifle that was thrown off the hwy bridge. The water hole dryed up. All I could see at first was a piece of wood. It was the stock. Rusted pretty bad. I had a garage sale sold it to a guy as it was. I am sure it probably didn't get there by accident but who knows. Also was trapping in the BWCA one winter. Found 25.00 on a mushers trail.

This is no joke, i was mushroom hunting in a spot that my dad kinda handed down to me. It was one of those years where the morels were pretty small so i was on my hands and knees combing the grass where i found one. I caught the smallest glimpse of something and at first i thought it was just the edge of a beer or pop tab. I pulled it out of the dirt and rubbed it off and it was my dads army tag from 30 or so years before. This property was almost 200 acres, what’s the chances!!!!

When I was a kid, I once found my arse with both hands.
My dad had mentioned one time, when I wasn't really paying attention, that I could not.
Proved him wrong.

Fellow my brother knew was up getting a Christmas tree in northern Colorado. Driving down the snow packed road and found a 50 caliber TC muzzle loader in the middle of the road. He asked my brother for $50. Couldn't get his wallet out fast enough. He used it for ten years, before he passed on.

I very seldom find stuff, but out hunting several years ago in one day I found a full box of 300 WinMag cartridges, a pair of Minolta binoculars, one of those bug jackets in my size, and a sizable baggie of weed. Shot up the 300 shells, wore the bug jacket, used the binoculars to spot a big moose, and .... my brother stole the weed from me. "You don't need that," he says as he grabbed it away from me. He later gave me $250. He said that was half of what he sold it for.

I can't recall of ever finding anything of value, I lost a hundred dollar bill twice buying traps or trapping paper. I did not realize it until I got home. I called each person but they claimed they did not find it.

I got myself a seniors' GPS.
Not only does it tell me how to get to my destination,
it tells me why I wanted to go there.

Thanks for the stories guys. I have a theory that trappers find more things because we are always looking for sign and that carrys over into our daily lives.

There is a lot of truth in that statement. Hunters to a degree, trappers even more so.

At least that's what I tell my wife when an attractive young lady walks by.

I think that is very true. Trappers as a bunch are very observant. A couple of the wallets I have found were in the road and I've spotted them at speed and knew exactly what they were at that speed. I found a stopwatch upside down at 35mph on a dirt road. Found a silver charm bracelet in the sand with just 3/8" of it sticking out on a beach.

Amazing what your eyes can see when they are open.

One winter while hunting rabbits I walked through a brush filled swamp on the ice rabbit hunting. Swamp was only about an acre in size and about 75 yards off a road. Saw a gun stock sticking out of a clump of tag alders and pulled out what looked like a WWII era Japanese rifle. Been there many years so it was total junk.

I think for me being a curious kid and always moving was start of it.
I can't even remember all things I've found over years. I think it's kind of like looking for morels. I always tell folks you have to have your eyes right. I think a lot of times it comes down to looking for noticing what is out of place. I can spot nuts and bolt long road sometime driving 65 mph..
I'm not so sure what is most interesting thing..I do recall stopping with my brother by a spring along road to get a drink. He was driving and I wasn't old enough to drive so was maybe 14?? I looked down for some reason see a coin picked it up..Then see another and another..brother starts looking too. We picked up couple dollars worth change on road and few small bills in grass in ditch. No idea where it came from must been someone else stopped by the spring dropped their piggy bank?

Being in the search and recovery I'm always looking.

Last thing though?? Was out fishing in boat few weeks back dog start fussing figure she needs break. Head up to island get out both dog and I pee.. walk a bit stretch my legs dog rams around.. I see little silver glint 6 inches water or so right where wave breaks on shore. Raccoon in me kicks in and I reach in water dig out the sparkly..Here is what it was. So I wonder what camper, or murder dropped it and why or how there. not like something flood would move to far???
nothing expensive or special yet interesting where it was..

One fall I was bow hunting in a large corn field. Sneaking along looking for bedded deer. Started following a large track down one of the rows and found a stone arrow head next to a track. Made me wonder if someone else was deer hunting several hundred years ago in what was probably a forest then.

I seem to find more knives than anything. Most of them are rusted junk by the time I get to them but once I found a really nice Case Knife in a leather sheath that I have got some good use out of. The best thing I ever found was a climbing deer stand, gun case , with a gun in it !. It was off the side of a Forest Service road at the head of a old logging road. Gun deer season was the weekend before I assume someone had loaded up a deer and just forgot the gun and stand. It was a 1100 20 ga . I ended up giving the gun and the stand to different kids that were getting into hunting .

One morning on the way to work it was pouring down rain. I saw a pair of waders in the middle of the road. I stopped and picked them up. Used them for back up and for guys that wanted to hunt but didnt have a pair of waders. When they were so full of holes that I couldnt use them any more I took them back to Cabelas and got $120 credit !

I've found a lot of things metal detecting. One thing I'll never forget was finding a boy's class ring. It had the school, year of graduation, and initials on it. I called the school asking if they could help me find the owner? I told her the year, initials, and that it was a boy's ring.

After a number of phone calls, I was able to locate the owner. I called him and told him I had found his class ring. He could stop by my office to pick it up. About a week went by before he finally stopped in. I gave him the ring. He said his mother had purchased it for him and he really didn't care if he got one or not. I didn't want anything for it, but a Thank You would have been nice. He must have mentioned it to his mother because she stopped by a week or so later with some fresh bread she had baked.

The difference between animals and humans is that animals would never let the dumbest ones lead the pack.

I think I found a body in a bag. Ashes anyway. A fairly stout plastic bag that had been partially torn open. Found it along the river while trapping. Seemed careless to me. Wasn't sure what to do with it but the bag itself seemed like trash that didn't belong in the river so I tossed it all under a spruce sapling. Probably still there. Maybe it's somebodys dog. Either way not cool to me.

Same farm, different field. I just nosed the corn head into the field when I seen 4wheeler tracks going through the rows. Crap! I thought. Wonder how far they went? Well, it wud’nt too far, cause there set a John Deere Gator in the middle of the field. I got out and low and behold the keys was in it! Brand new with less than 30 hours on it. Started her up and backed out. A lil research confirmed it was leased by a local high school and was stolen a week prior and dumped in my field.

I once saw the heel of a pair of waders sticking out of the water. I thought that they had maybe blown out of one of the rigs that the boat lift installers use. When I went to pull them out of the water I found that they were being worn by a guy who had just drowned that day and the air trapped in them had kept the heel afloat. I did not get to keep the waders ...they weren't my size anyway.

Thirty five plus years ago went out behind my mothers farm to kick up a couple rabbits. A couple hundred yards out going thru some brush and saplings I found a girl in her early 20's hanging in a tree. She had been there a couple days and was frozen solid. Fresh dusting of snow and no tracks. All she had on was a flimsy night gown and slippers. Seems she had just gotten released from a halfway house and was being put-up in a local motel not to far away. Found her the day after Christmas.

He probably lost them by also being on hand and knees there. doing what you were doing years before. Who could have for seen that? You were meant to have them back.

I found a wallet on the sidewalk in Minneapolis back in the 60s. Went inside the store and gave it to the mgr. When I handed it to him he said "another one". Apparently the thieves walk by and throw them in the trash can. I guess they weren't very good at basketball.

Yeah, that, too. I just didn't want to be the one to bring it up. Still gives me bad vibes, because the guy died doing the exact same thing in the exact place that I'd done dozens of times. Could easily have been me.

What were you doing upside down on a dirt road at 35 mph?

Here is another “find” for a coworker of mine.

It happened about 15 years ago, I was driving home from work and at a 4 way intersection I see my coworker pull up opposite of me. We both turn the same direction and pull over a few hundred feet later to BS. He tells me about the used Stihl saw he just picked up and was heading home to try it out. Go to look in the back of his truck with the tailgate down and no saw! He was ticked! We jump in his truck, turn around and head back to the dealer he bought it from. In a small village where he turned off one county highway onto another there sat his Stihl saw on the curb. Pull over to get it and an older gent was sitting on his porch and comments about how long it was going to take for someone to come back looking. My friend showed him the sales receipt and on our way we went with saw in back and tailgate up. Still laugh about that one.

Green Bay , cool on the update. ( everyone look at OP's 1st post )
Hopefully they get a conviction on it.

Very important find.

I've been called out with my FD on occasion to do a mass search ( forming a line all shoulder to shoulder) to search an area looking for firearms/evidence with the police.

Glad you found the magazine in the first place , bet the police are happy with you.

I came across a cast iron pot full of dried rooster heads with some kind of ritual-looking sword stuck in the middle. This pot was resting on a satin blanket with occult/satanic symbols. Very creepy, gave me the chills. Finding this in the middle of the woods really catches you off-guard. I actually phone it into the state police and they said it was tied into some satanic holiday of some sort.
