I use a small hand strainer you can buy them at Walmart in the pot and pan area. I pour out of the jug carefully so as not to pour loose the pieces of working tail. I use a funnel and strainer inside the funnel to screen out any solids. I only get about 2-3% of sediment that will settle in the bottom of the jar over a few days. You can work that out however it doesn't hurt anything.

You can use a very fine screen to get the final pour out for bottling or for storing the oil.You can get paint paper funnel strainers from your local Napa or Advance Auto store that is very thin mesh which does a great job in filtering.

Have you ever tried to "cook" fish oil in this manner? Since it is currently snowing and raining here it is going to be a bit before sun-rendering is going to accomplish much.

Most any fatty material can be rendered with enhanced heat sourcing if you have the ability to delivery a sustained heat source without compromising the material by using too much heat causing scorching.

After reading this post and since I am trapping spring beaver, and I am bored, I decided to cut up some tails and try my hand at rendering some oil. Took a couple tails to get the hand of filleting the tails.

Wish I had more time to trap....
