So theres this pond...beaver problem trapping for the farmer. Ive got most of the beaver out of there. Im quite certain im down to 2 beaver left. One in the pond to the north and one in the pond to the south. The beaver in the north, I have his right foot and hes a little trap shy to say the least. The beaver in the south should be the big female and shes done with my game and gone into deep hiding. By the lodges it is super deep. I am at my wits end with these guys, ive tried every set I know of with little success on these last guys. Snaring season is done here in MN. Tell me what sets you guys would try. Thanks (PS. the yellow dots are lodges, and the green area are dams )

If you haven't wised them up with conibears I would pull everything and give it about a week. Then slip in with a couple 330s and set them some place totally submerged, blind with no lure. When you are pulling stuff spend the time then to totally scout around and try and find a couple deep runs to set them in, so when you go back in you can slip in and out with a minimum of disturbance. I've seen trap shy beavers go into deep hiding if you do much stake pounding. If you know where their dens are don't go near them when you slip back in, you don't want the beavers to realize anyone has even been back by there.

IF you have wised them up with both conibears and footholds. . . well have fun. It can be done but you will have your work cut out for you.

I would put a floating castor mound set about 20’ out from each lodge , stake the float and run a drowner cable with a foothold. Make sure it is different castor then what you’ve previously used

Sounds like a very interesting setup to me and I think it may very well be successful.

The only constant in trapping is change so keep learning.

Have any pics of your floating castor mounds?

Roads? Where we're going, we don't need roads.

Here's a 330 float-
2x4's - 24" long with 1/2" foam between 2x4's. May have to chisel out where springs fit into slots for tight fit.

That's great Hern! Thank you, I love how you showed the camoflauged float, that helps ME a ton!

A couple nails that the trap hooks to and on the bow of the float a anchor is dropped and wired then the drowning cable is wired to the cross member and drown anchor dropped behind the float
Works well in deep ponds where dogs are running the shoreline

Alot of great ideas. I used conis last year in the fall but I dont think...think...they have wised up to them. If a beaver has a lodge all to himself...will he still use bank dens? Its about the only runs that arent in 15 feet of water. Thus far out of these ponds I have pulled a 56lb, 30lb, and a kit.

They likely will, but maybe not all of them and not daily. You may be able to see which runs are getting traffic, but if it is just one beaver, that isn't always obvious.

For lure use only sac oil.

Blind set of any type. If coni go completely submerged.

Snares are legal as water sets in MN during beaver season. Read the snaring regs.

Those floats look mice but just in case it doesn't work wait three weeks, put on some camo, get a good accurate rifle, quietly hide close by the house and toss a brick or a big rock into the water and wait.

Just passin through

What Ringbill said.

I've snared a lot of spring beaver. I had great success using them on drowners.

Finally nailed a tough one today. Caught the mate 2 weeks ago but this beaver would not respond to anything. Caught him on set with just sac oil.
