Has anyone ever used badger dirt for cover? I have been eyeballing these piles for awhile, and thought it would be some easy/scented possibly dirt that would make excellent cover dirt for next season...thoughts?

I've used it because it was the closest thing available. I've also scooped up dirt from prairie dog mounds and pocket gopher mounds to use because it was dry and available. Not because of it be scented. I don't think badger mound dirt will smell much different than any other dirt as long as its not taken directly from a catch circle. As long as it's dry dirt go ahead an scoop it up for cover dirt for next season.

silkyplainscoyot, thanks (love your name btw!) I was just curious if anyone else had the same mentality as me. It is super fine dirt, in a pile, and free for the taking! The scent thing was just an afterthought, plus I was hoping to give someone else the idea if they hadn't thought of it before!

No badgers or prairie dogs here...what else you got?

Diggers? That's about it, unless you can convince a yote or coon to do so. I forgot about groundhogs!

Wanna Be...I don't know if you're ever looking for cover dirt, l wish I could describe what these mounds look like, they are holes in the ground with the absolute perfect amount of dryness and consistency that you can imagine! I'm just trying to figure out if its good dirt or not(it's already been answered btw)

That's how I get my dirt for waxing. get somebody else to do the digging and sifting and it semi dry..

I have used badger and gopher mound dirt for waxing for the reasons stated above. I have wondered about using badger catch circle dirt at new sets for the scent attraction factor. Anybody do this?

I am going to start collecting some dirt (dry) from any catch circle. I know a guy who has also dragged fresh caught animals around other sets...he claims it can work!

So are you going to collect It and then store It till next season?
During the season when I move a dirty trap to a fresh location I will top dress the new set with some recent catch circle dirt. Know the trap and the set all smell the same. This has been fairly effective for me.

The badger dirt I just collected, yes. As far as catch circle dirt, I'll have to wait for next season.

I use alot of Badger mound and goffer mound dirt. The best part is its already shifted.

I picked up 140 gallons of pocket gopher dirt this weekend. They do a great job of pre-sifting dirt for you. I run it through a screen one more time, dry it and wax it. Now is the best time to find it while the grass is low and the mounds stick out like a sore thumb. We have a bounty on them, so I set a pocket gopher trap, take the dirt and return the next day to pick up my pocket gopher.
