Is that the thread where someone said the virus was Trump's fault? If so, I deleted it. I didn't know which thread that was. LOL I don't know I posted it this morning and hadn't been back on . No one had replied to it last time I looked. But now Washington and Cali have laid off 1000's

It's because they aren't doing elective procedures, as already stated.

I know of a lot of healthcare workers that are furloughed or laid off. The ones I know of are dental hygienist and eye dr staff and such that re for routine exams. They are only doing emergency services as of now in NC. All other staff has been put on unemployment for the time being.

Ours is slow because people are actually staying home and not coming out for every little ache or hang nail. They are sending some nurses home on call in the ER if the census is low.

We aren't there yet. You called me crazy and told me to come back in two weeks. We're halfway there. Now I've got to wait two years? It's amazing how the timelines move as the sky hasn't fallen.

Jbyrd, on a local level here I can tell you what I am seeing. Surgeries are down to 0 elective surgeries that's 8 OR nurses, three recovery nurses, four same day surgery nurses, three anesthesia providers and a number of surgeons out of work daily. Our occupational therapy and physical therapy patients are not coming to the hospital to be seen and there are no patients in the hospital to see so the majority of them have been laid off. There's no billing to be done so office staff are laid off. They're paying people RN wages to sit at the door and take people's temperatures and ask if they've traveled.
The primary care clinics are empty. Wellness exams have been stopped (which means people aren't getting preventative healthcare at this time). Some appointments are being done over the telephone and decisions for care are made as best they can.
On a medical surgical floor there's 25 beds (It's critical access and that's the most you can have prior to corona virus) there's on average 15-19 patients daily. The most I have seen in the last two weeks is four. An ER that would see 25-30 people per shift (12 hours) is now seeing four-six per day. People are burning their vacation just to pay their bills. They're begging to come to work but there's only so many times you can wipe down an empty room. The government will save the hospital with a bailout with all that funding coming the way of small businesses I hear. This hospital staffs 580 people which is 80 more than the cutoff for assistance. Typically there's three RN's during the day in the ER and up to six on the medical surgical floor. Most days they are getting by with two on each side which is the bare minimum allowed.
We've essentially shut down complete operation of the hospital= no money coming in. Built an extra 10 Covid-19 rooms with adequate negative pressure rooms for this influx of patients we've been waiting on the last four weeks that simply hasn't come. I'm lucky in the fact I've been in it long enough I have ample hours to burn and I am actually trying to burn all of my vacation hours as I'll be leaving the establishment soon. I'm sure there's plenty of institutions around the country in the exact same predicament. Luckily I have continued on with my education and I don't foresee any issues getting a job pretty much anywhere I want in this country. Others are not as lucky. People are starting to get real nervous about the fact that they don't know where their next paycheck is going to come rather than if they'll get corona virus. I'm preparing to tell up to 8 nurses they don't get to come to work today here shortly. It's always a fun conversation to have.
One of the largest hospitals within 100 miles here that we usually have to beg to send patients to when we are full are sitting with 200 beds open and waiting. On any other given day they are full to the seams and you have to wait for people to either die or be discharged for a room to open up. It's not a huge city but with over a quarter million you'd think they would be full of corona patients by now. Our hospital provides a majority of the care for citizens in this county which is near 22,000. They might not have a hospital to receive care at when this is all said and done.
I want to be very clear as I have been in numerous other posts. This virus is going to kill people. I'm not brushing it off as if it's just a walk in the park. What I am saying is the economic repercussions of this complete shutdown of the country is going to kill many more people.

The number referenced I was addressing was tens of 10 millions dead. Even with all the precautions, here we are, seven days later now with 330,000 cases in the US. I don't believe this will last two years with these measures in place, mainly because they will find an effective treatment soon, and manage it better. It's not like its resurgence this fall is a shocking scenario. It's becoming more obvious to me as we go, how little we understood this thing coming into it.
