The best person to go mushroom hunting with is the one that’s survived previous seasons grin

My best places are around dying elms, ones that still have bark on them. The bare ones don’t seem as good. Old apple orchards and around ash trees are also supposed to be good but never have been for me.

Most of our good spots are in stands of tulip poplar. Disturbed areas are good, so are burned areas. Morels grow where they grow and when you think you have it all figured out you'll find a big patch of them in a spot you would never expect to see them. Such is the fun of mushroom hunting.
