I bought these to fix up on rods. 1/2 inch 10ft rods. Washer on one end for stake other end a nut? Weld nut 1ft from end? Turn waster flat and weld to other end ? I have never used any on beaver are they good ones? Attaching a no bs beaver trap too them. Thanks.

The Bauer system that I am aware of is designed to not need to be welded. Everything bolts on.

The Bauer no-weld system just involves bolt-on components. If you just have the slides and are looking to modify your 1/2'' X 10' rods, then yes. Weld your washer or even a larger 5/8'' nut about a foot from the bottom of your rod. For the top, use something like 9 gauge cold-rolled steel and make a half-loop to weld on. You'll need to weld it on narrow enough to be able to slide your slide over it. Then, as you said, use a 3/8'', 24'' t-rod to stake the top.

I was going to take a big washer on end . Right on top end then weld one on bottom side same place. So I have one on top and bottom. Then run stake thru both in case one breaks. Just me think or ever thinking. I would like to have fiberglass rods to use. But have no idea where to get.

Do my stakes have to be 24 inch long? Some places cant get 24 inchs in. Would 18 in be too short? Maybe make them out of 1/2 not 3/8 or maybe use smooth bar?

What I don't understand is why buy the Bauer kits if you have a welder?

Just weld a loop of 1/4" rod on one end and a stop on the other. You can put it up a foot or right at the bottom, both work. 18" will hold the top stake but I find it easier to buy 20' sections of rebar, cut two 8' rods and two 24" stakes.





I made my locks in the style No BS sells, kind of pain to build but I only needed 6.

I bought 16 locks for 8.00. A guy didnt want them. He didnt want to use them. They was never used. That's why I got them for the price.

ADC I couldn't pass that deal up. Got the washers and nuts for free. I am only out the 8.00 and my time welding them.

here's how mine are BT, 1/4" thick washer for the t-stake and thinner washer sideways bout 6-10" from the bottom. I use a angle iron lock on 3/8" smooth rod, and have caught 9 over 70 lbs with this set up, BUT, you MUST secure the bottom well, cuz if they pull it up, it'll be wrapped like a pretzel.

traprjohn, That washer on the bottom of the rod, I'd think it would hinder our ability to push the rod into the bottom of many of our creeks and ponds here lots of clay. I like the simple design you have though. I find the wider tip on my rods seems to shove in ok, but it also helps IMO to hold the tip down in the mud. Just goes to show there's more than one way to skin a cat.

Well Jaime, that could happen I spose, but I shoved 2 rods 2 feet into mud last weekend without a hitch.
And, we have clay here in hades too and sometimes they don't go in a foot but hold well.
Ya gota bow the rod while holding it firm, as ya know, to make it anchor well.....ya kinda feel it.

Would it help if I welded the nut on bottom to 18 to 22 inchs? That way I would have more rod deeper in the mud?

I put my bottom stop about a foot from the end of the rod. I also use two top anchor points on the top end of the rod about 8" apart and use 2 24" T stakes. This reduces the probability of the rod being rotated to the bank even if the bottom does come loose. And sometimes, I have not been able to get the bottom set due to a rocky bottom. Having two top stakes keeps the rod from being pulled to the bank. I do use 1/2" rebar rods, 10' long.

2X to quiet deadly. I learned having only one stake at the top end is a mistake if the bottom end gets loose.

This is my rig. Washer doesn't really interfere with jabbing the bottom in, (this one is bolted, and nylock nut, due to lack of a welder), and the slide is 1" square tube, with a crunchproof stud, and chestnut ring. Can use a caribiner or quick ling for attachment.

So weld the washer on end. Then one on the other side 8 or 10 inchs down. So I can double stake it?

I use 2 5/8" hex nuts for the anchor points.
