Would like to hear more about these bulls eye triggers. Reviews? Used mainly for beaver? Otter? All of the above? I have a half dozen or so 330s needing new triggers. Maybe I'll give em a try (depending).

IDman, just buy the xtra long triggers and form them around paint cans, they are killer for otter and beaver AND I do the same with 220's and 110's.
Didn't you see my How To article in Furtaker Magazine?

My 330's set for beaver/otter ,now catch more mink and muskrat than If I set for them.
A 280 or 330 is now my new botton edge trap for mink and muskrat..

Thanks for the tip traprjohn. Guess I missed the article. Which issue?

Newt, You use big ol' 280s and 330s for mink and muskrat? Wow! I guess it gives you a lot bigger target area and less likely of them going around? Seems to me they'd slip right thru the bulls eye but apparently not...?

It's not about the ones you catch It's about the ones you miss. And In my opinion your going to miss some with that sized trap and that trigger system.
I know we used a lot of 220=2s back in the day and It made a super mink and rat trap. But we all know It's all about the location and not so much the trap size. In the right location and use of guiding the 160 Is a rat and mink killing machine.

In a beaver trapping situation It would work just fine.

Set trap with trigger on bottom. The beaver ,otter, try to go through the circle trigger. Like a snare.
Mink and muskrat Center on the circle. Rember that they all swin on the bottom. As the mink or muskrat swims through. They Use the bottom of the trigger to kick off on.

If that's the size of your circle triggers that Is shown In the picture I'm betting more that a few rats and mink will slip through with out springing the trap.

That would depend almost entirely on how bad you need to catch that last beaver. In that scenario, you will catch every muskrat and mink in the swamp before you catch that beaver. Mosquito fish too, probably, but those traps won't hold those.

Interesting thread. Newt I appreciate you weighing in, that certainly added some credibility from your name. I had always been of the mind they would not improve anything.

Warning to some states, like MN, they may not be legal after a certain date and straight triggers on the side are sometimes required for spring beaver trapping.

Sorry Newt I have a much better way to catch rats. And when I'm on a ADC beaver job I don't want my traps filled with rats. That Is going to cost me money. I quit trapping beaver for It's fur 10 years ago. Know It's pay me or I'm not doing It.

I've been using circle triggers this 5'' size and have gotten a few rats in 330's set for beaver. I think a lot of them swim through. The top one is caught by the tail. This trigger worked to help me get fewer misses. I only had one snapped one with nothing in it last season and I think it might have been a fish. I got some otters with this trigger configuration and sometimes they still get a little far into the trap. Beaver are typically perfect.

Been using them for other body traps too- they add fur to the pile. Most animals dive right into the middle of the circle like it's a magnet

I went from one or two mink caught in drylands set 155/160 BG's using every trigger configuration, except circle(how different could they be?,lol.) to 19 mink, m'rats and coon from 15 traps set two seasons ago to 13 from 12 this year. All traps set in snow show tracks told the story only small mink(not wanted anyway) and a couple ermine made it thru traps. Only a few refusals, mostly LG coon. Circle triggers set dog on bottom in free standing supports(not into ground) have proven themself to me. Make my triggers for under .50 ea from 330 mm bicycle spokes in black. Got some bulleye's for my 220's for otter(couldn't find affordable spoke wire long enough for a 6" opening trigger)(Penny Farthing high wheel spokes were but too expensive). Lost many trapping season by not giving the a try.

I've learned enough thru the years to now know that I don't know enough. KNOWLEDGE IS FREEDOM.
