Anyone try horse meat based baits? Curious to how it would perform and like variety. It is advertised very good. But some have told it is not that attractive.

I've tested it by it's self and made baits out of it. I'm not sure if coyote preferences vary from place to place but it out performed most of the other bases i see used in my testing.

Ok. Sorry about spelling on title lol. I wondered. It is something that I've never tried before. And is different. Anxious to see.

I've used gator bait. And did get some hits on that. Mainly coon. But that seems to also attract deer for whatever reason.

I have read that some guys really like it and have a preference for horse meat as a base if it is available. Milligan says it is tops in his book, Coyote Fever. I'm hoping to try it some this next season.

Rich kaspar made a horse meat bait that was great and so did James halseth. Horse was always best producer for me and beaver the worst.

Apple road horse meat bait was my best bait this year just ahead of venison (deer meat for you southern folk) on coyote fox and bobcat. This year I made some beaver bait which seems to be a hit so far testing a little.

Keg creek baits and lures makes a good one.
I like horse among others .
I usually go through a gallon a year of Marty's bait.
And agree with Jess on beaver not a top producer fresh and if aged down it's even worse.

Beaver, Cat and Venison all tested well in my experience. At times beaver is good, then venison is good then cat is good. It all works well if you are on location. I have tested fresh and tainted they all work. Never had much access to horse meat to test it. Too much hassle for getting product when needed.

Used lots of livestock beef for personal use when available, pork and poultry of all types all worked well fresh and slightly aged. Eggs are very attractive also.

Like beav stated beaver meat is attractive most everywhere I have trapped. Regional and seasonal preferences are common place at times.

Never tried beaver. But, quail remains work exceptionally well during the cold months down here. I just have a couple plantations save me their remains after cleaning birds. Still have half a garbage bag full in the freezer for next year.

I notice a lot of guys who've had success with horse meat are from the West. I tried it off and on with limited success. Coyotes seem to be curious but not overly enthusiastic. I do much better with deer liver and deer meat when it come to coyotes committing.
