In town sort of so thinking cages would be best but I've never caged fox before so looking for advise. Would setting travel corridor be best? Set and bait ideas? And with kits/pups in the den not sure if a positive set would be effective since I feel like one would set it off then the others wouldn't want to enter later. I've never taken an undertaking like this but I am not going to give up. Any advise is appreciated.

Never had to trap foxes due to permits, but I've never had trouble with babies going into traps. It's not uncommon to have 2 at a time in them. Sometimes you can set the babies in a trap onto of another trap and get momma.

That's kind of what I was hoping but a bit worried that if it takes a few days that will be bad. So thinking of setting farther out from the den to get adults first then getting the kits.

If there are kits, set a 30” Comstock with a nose cone. She’ll go through it as long as there is not another easy way in or out. Kits are strong motivation for her to overcome her fear of passing through the trap - in or out. Or you’ll catch a kit and have good bait, again for her to overcome her fear of a cage.

Not sure I can positive set it. I was sent pick and the den looks to be under a small porch on the front of the shed. If I can then I will try that. Thanks

If you have some blocking, plywood, sheet metal, you can block off as much as you need quickly. I use small T bars to hold sheet metal 12x16 and 12x32 in place, then put a double door flush mount cage or double door cage with a nose cone, 30 or 36 inches long in the opening or openings.

I dont have a double door but will order one today. Going to go see what can be done with the equipment I have which is limited since most of my trapping is on farms or at least more rural.

I appreciate the advice and will heed it as best I can.

If you catch the mother first she could basically be used as live bait and the kits will cage themselves getting back to her. That would be my hope anyway

Here is a much easier and more simple approach to solving the problem. Tell the people to modify their behavior by putting the chickens inside a fox proof chicken coop. It works every time.

I have raised pheasants, ducks, turkeys, and hundred of cornish cross meat chickens over 35 years and have not lost one bird to a predator. A nice chicken coop with a window and a door at opposite ends for ventilation and a temperature controlled switched exhaust fan for really hot days draws in clean fresh cooler air and blows out the hot air.

I would but I dont know where the chickens are being caught. It's a wooded, hilly, subdivision type area with lots of dead ends and cul-de-sacs and very curvy roads. Houses are close together but cant be seen from the roads. And the homeowner does not know who has chickens (and dosent want to ask)

Why would the owner of the shed with a wild fox living underneath care to hire and pay a trapper to stop the wild fox from killing chickens of unknown origin? Wow, that is a heck of a trapping story.

For that scenario, how about this solution. Put a fox-proof fence around the shed and feed the fox and her pups. That way, the shed owner prevents the fox from committing additional crimes. Warning, it may be prohibited to domesticate a wild fox.

Who is complaining? The chicken owner or the shed owner? The only person ,by my ADC rules, that has a right to get the fox removed is the chicken owner. It would have to be caught on chicken owners property and not at the shed also. If the shed owner has a problem then the best action would be to harass the fox enough that it moves. Then take measures to prevent return in the future.

Wish I had more time to trap....

I like this idea.

Sounds like a confusing, perhaps bizaare situation, Trap Setter. I lost track of who you are trying to help in this matter. Hopefully you succeed. Good luck.

The shed owner. The fox wasn't interested in any bait I was using and killed another chicken the problem is the pups are dragging them under the shed and its an outdoor bar of sorts. The owner was concerned about the smell of rotting chickens and other pests attracted to it. Anyhow I trenched around the shed installed fencing and a one way door no activity after the night I placed the fencing so sealed the door. Job done, thanks for the help everyone. It was a strange situation but I was able to resolve it to the owners satisfaction.
