Decided to try making predator bait this year with some of my spring beavers. I wanted to try 3 batches. Made a batch with predator control groups bait solution, a batch with Federales bait solution, and a batch of just straight ground beaver meat. Both of the solutions made that bait smell so good I might try eating it if times were tough.I let my ground beaver taint over a week in our mild weather, putting it out in the sun during the day, until it started to gray and getting a sulfur smell. I added my sodium Benzoate (1cup per gallon of meat) and now after 5 days my straight beaver meat has lost just about all of the stinky meat smell and smells sweet and kinda like soap. Did I over do my Benzoate? Is that just how it’s supposed to go?

Golfer has a good idea!..its what we all do....and set up trail cams.

need to ask
did you stir the SB at least every other day?
did the other 2 solutions have SB already in them?

I say no you didn't do anything wrong. Mine smells about the same as you described. Funny thing is I did about the same thing. I made deer, beaver and bobcat meat bait. Some of each with Dobbins bait solution and some of each just meat and a dab of Castor and honey. I had so much beaver I did a batch of that plain.

Wish I had more time to trap....

Yes I’ve been stirring once everyday and the solutions already had the SB in them.

Yep the yotes will tell you. Been testing baits and lures here. Great use for your game cams in the off season. Amazing how easy they get sheeps wool out of a 2” dirt hole or a 1” pipe.

I'm itchin' to see a coyote twitchin'.

More trappin' and less yappin'.

Trail cams can teach you a lot about animal behavior and responses over time. Reactions can vary from animal to animal and from visit to visit from the same animal. Some animals have distinct markings that you can identify over time as being a previous visitor.

Cam use can make you a better trapper the longer you do it. Behavior and foot placement with different animals at a set is eye opening at times.

Locations and type of sets can get very different reactions with the same lure or bait.
