i use to use victor #1.75 when i trapped for the live market had no problems but never ran large numbers of them if you are targeting coyotes i would recommend spending some money on real coyote traps like mb or bridgers

Yoteguts I just washed a plastic fork LOL or I'd try to make a deal with ya. I have some fancy traps but I cant think of one that would out perform what you are selling on a mixed predator line.

I am beginning to think the very best coyote trap would be one you could not find with a metal detector or magnet!!!!!

Someone will be coming out with some high density material that does not have any smell so needs not trap treatment, cannot be found by man nor beast.
It will be able to withstand the beating of a gorilla, or a teen age boy race car driver.

No coyote, wolf or Big foot will ever sniff or detect it. It will probably not even cause a reaction when snaps on a foot and may even give the target a mild sedative.

It will probably have an invisible switch so you can set it on the ground and not have to conceal. Just hope the remote that makes it visible again still works when it is time to pull.

It will probably self destruct after two seasons, making it necessary to buy new.

Boy I can hardly wait.

I suspect that this idea may be swiped for the next James Bond or Mission Impossible movie.

Begin by looking at the regulations for what is permitted in your jurisdiction. Then look at traps that fall within those restrictions. Next, consider which of those traps you can afford. Finally, ask for a comparative discussion of the traps available to you.

Jake trap. Retooled from #3 sleepy creeks last season. Really liking the Jakes. They take ahold like lust does on a teenager on prom night.

Imo whatever trap you choose if you 4 coil I think it would be prudent to laminate. If 2 coiled you should be ok without laminating. Just make sure you have no sharp edges on your jaws. Sharp edges on the jaws are a big no no. please don't find out the hard way. Good luck

I have a question that I hope others can give input to and for me. I have not been yote trapping much the last decade. My yote traps are 1.75 Victors with off set jaws, center swiveled, outside laminated 2 coiled traps with strong shock springs in the chain and the traps are cross staked when set. I know and have read about the issues with the smaller size traps and smaller kill area and more snapped traps and toe catches etc. What I am asking here is if one has strong shock springs do they take enough of the power out of the yote's lunges to make the smaller 2 coiled trap very usable from a holding perspective? I don't plan to buy some of the more modern and updated models until I set more canine lines. Back in the mid 90s I was catching about 3 reds for every yote and did not experience many issues but then yote catches were few.

My opinion would be to use them and see. I have a feeling this is gonna be a trial year anyway, meaning I fear prices are going to be extremely low, which means if you trap you better enjoy doing it! Depends on your check laws as well, if you have to (or do) check your traps every day, I would think you'd be fine. I feel a lot of times people get too wrapped up on things like; you shouldn't do this or that, and should focus more on what works MOST of the time. If you're making sure that your sets are positioned on sign with good lure/bait, I would think you'll have success. Newbies two cents, take it with a grain of salt!

Use em Bryce. put some more swivels In the chain and keep those chains short so that yote can't get much of running start and you should be good to go.
I use 2 coiled #2 Dukes and have no problems holding coyotes.

I think those 1.75 should be fine. I would have 3 concerns, 1 would be the spring strength when conditions aren't perfect. 2 would be to make sure the jaws won't pop out and the 3rd is the base plate strong enough. To be successful you will have to be good at guiding the paw to the pan. Without very good guiding it will be an uphill battle.
