I'm trying Speed Dip... just because ... because I had it in my shed for years.
What is the process? Boil traps in water, and then dip in speed dip ?? That's all ??? No wax, or dye ??
Just 1 or 2 coats of stinky gas speed dip ???
Just a weekend trapper...

I have never used it but a friend did and he caught predators. Only one dip for him. I was there when he did some and I couldn't get past the smell and the mess he made. I still she and wax because I have it.
Wish I had more time to trap....

I cant speak for speed dip personally but if its anything like Dakotaline snare dip it works great until its exposed to freezing temps then its ruined. I tried some that had been in my shed after cold temps were over. No good.

Just 1 or 2 coats of stinky gas speed dip ??? I use two gallons(or 2.5 if you want it thinner) of high octane gas(like 93 or better) or colman fuel, per quart of dip. I put it all in a 5 gallon bucket with a sealable lid. I would NOT stir it with an electric or battery powered drill! (Might go kaboom). I use a trap stake to stir it. Degrease your traps, dip(use rubber gloves), i hang mine in a covered but open lean-to off my shop. dip traps EARLY (as in before July, earlier is better). Let hang all summer in the open air. If you get dip on you, WD-40 will take it off your skin

You'll have this how to post now then the "how do I remove speed dip?" post in the fall. lol
Seriously though there should be directions on the can, however I always added an extra can of gas to mine. I prefered gas without ethanol, no need to buy expensive white gas (Coleman fuel), IMO. Just wash off the traps let em dry and dip them once, no soaking or anything, dip them in, pull them out and hang them to (hopefully) dry to a hard slick finish. This was black Andy Stoe's.... and over 15 years ago. I really do not understand why there is such a wide spread of opinions on this topic. I have talked to in person or via private mail with guys that swear the have good luck with fuel based cold dip. I have also talked with guys that swear against it. The guys that like it have told me to mix it a lot thinner than what directions say. A friend from the middle of the country told me that he does not always have to dip some traps every year, if they are not beat up or did not make a catch. Just curious. mac

I appreciate the guys that use dip that stepped up and answered some questions. I know some guys do not like it, that is fine.
But those that do, have shared helpful information. And that is not always easy on this forum. There are always the sexual intellectuals that have to leap on something they know little about and throw their two cents in. I know ADC does not like speed dip, but he is never a butt hole about differences of opinion. What the sexual intellectuals (in field we called them F&&&@@2 know it alls) do not realize is that over a very short time they are recognized for what they are. Lots of very good and very experienced trapped have walked away because of the butt holes.
I mention this on this post for a reason. I often hear through private mail from a lot of good trappers that have stopped sharing on subjects simply because of the smart A&& attitudes on here.
I am darn sure glad for the guys that post and offer their advice.
Mac

Do you have to clean any gunk of the dogs once dipped? If you dip in a thin mixture, and you hang the traps ups with the dog facing out or down no. If it builds up, scrape it off just like you would with wax that has accumulated. A good friend has given me a tip that others might like, some may not. He is an outstanding canine and all around trapper. He has been a dipper for years. He dips them, hangs them up and runs a leaf blower over them to get the drips off. It sounds like a good tip to me. (He is an amazing bobcat trapper. I have tried to get him to do an interview for an article. He wants no part of it. LOL He is becoming more old school all the time. LOL I say that because he has made fun of my old fashioned ways.) Mac

Do you have to clean any gunk of the dogs once dipped? Yes when you hang them up a drop sometimes forms on the end of the dog Adding to Chewks post excessive rust on traps give less desirable results as does dipping in cool wet weather It's not a magical formula that gives perfect results if you dont use your head

Unleaded gas vs. Coleman fuel. In this archive, one individual said he prefers regular gas over Coleman fuel. He felt regular gas coated better and smoother and not blotchy or goopy like Coleman fuel did. Anybody notice this?

Cheap paint thinner, a semi-stiff paint brush and a minute per trap is all I used to get Stoe’s dip off. I’ve since gone to spray painting for color and full metal jacket.
Never too old to learn
